Mark Ronson Sued Over ‘Uptown Funk’… Again

Published: Saturday 30th Dec 2017 by Sam

‘Uptown Funk’ is one of the biggest hits in recent memory, but the single is proving to be an equally controversial case in the courtroom.

Producer Mark Ronson was recently sued for (allegedly) ripping off Roger and Zapp‘s 1980 classic ‘More Bounce to the Ounce.’

Now, another party has come to the legal roast, claiming the same…about a different song.

Details after the jump…

According to TMZ, female rap group named The Sequence are the latest accusers.

The trio claim their 1979 hit ‘Funk You Up’ (which became the third rap song ever to reach Billboard’s Top 50) was borrowed unlawfully.

In court docs, the group claims Mars and Ronson’s song has “significant and substantially similar compositional elements” of ‘Funk You Up.’

The ladies are requesting for a jury trial and unspecified amount of money from Mars — and Ronson.

We’ve heard the original and this whole case sounds like a reach to heavens. But listen below and let us know what you think….

When the song is sped up… It does sound similar. You gotta speed it up to 1.5 and listen to the chores closely… as well as the beat.

I hear it. Always stealing from classic black musiic without paying. Glad they’re suing! Also, happy Blurred Lines was called out years ago and had to pay up. Bruno is suspect to me..

Yes but it’s called history. Maybe within time you’ll catch up little Latina chick… blacks clearly set the trends.

From the moment the song start playing I hear it. So it’s really not a reach.

However, I do not feel like the producer actually pull this song up and said let’s borrow from this. I am almost 100% sure that they didn’t use this as reference. The problem is almost every song from this era has similarities. It’s just that genre in general.

My only compliant is, why are they just now saying something about it? This song came 2-3 years.

The longer you wait the more money you can sue for

The melody on the chorus while they’re chanting “funk you up” does sound similar. This is what happens when your reductive, culture vulture a** decides to rip off a dozen lesser known black artists and pass it off as your own sound. And Bruno’s last album sounds like fertile ground for a ton of lawsuits too.
