Fans of 7-time Grammy winner Toni Braxton (affectionately called ‘Toni’s Tigers’) had an 8 year wait between the singer’s last solo outing, 2010’s ‘Pulse,’ and her most recent effort, ‘Sex & Cigarettes.’
‘Cigarettes,’ which hit shelves March 23rd, was preceded by the critically acclaimed Urban AC cuts ‘Deadwood’ and ‘Long As I Live’ and was greeted with generally positive reviews. Unfortunately, that fanfare was not reflected commercially as – just a day after its release – industry analysts predicted the set would not shift more than 18,000 units SPS its first week of availability.
Moreover, with minimal television, print, or radio support to change the tide, the ‘Breathe Again’ beauty’s 8th LP proved them right. Tuck inside to see how many units the project sold and where it landed on this week’s Billboard 200:
‘Sex & Cigarettes’
First Week Sales: 16,000
Chart Placement: #22
The figures above not only represent the singer’s lowest first week sales for any of her studio albums to date, but also her lowest debut placement on the Billboard 200.

Tell that to Target and Best Buy. They was chargin $14 at Best Buy and $14.99 at Target plus tax when I went there last week. Where is it $10 bucks at?
Sugar daddy? You got me f*cked up. You better get your own sh*t like I do. ?
Albums rarely had 10 tracks. It’s just an excuse to be cheap. She gave us a quality album.
IOWNTHEWORLD Can you buy me the album sugar daddy and mail it to me? I aint got 15 bucks for no album with only 8 tracks even though I like Toni Braxton. I want my money’s worth. Somebody said they found it for 10 bucks. I’ll buy it for 10 if you tell me what store got it for 10. I checked Target and Best Buy and they was $14 and $14.99 plus tax.

this song is dedicated to all the men out there. That don’t seem to know how to keep their man happy
I want you all to take a good listen, see if you wanna try THIS
Some men think the high of a man’s pleasure
is when he’s kissing him on the lips
And some men think that the joy of foreplay
is caressing with his finger tips
And some men think a little tittie kissing
is the answer to every man’s dream
But let me tell yah how to kiss him
if you really want to hear him scream (hoo)
you are making him feeling good
but you can make him feel better
If you treat your man like a stamp on a letter
lick it
before you stick it
lick it
before you stick it
lick it
before you stick it
lick it
before you stick it
lick it
before you stick it
lick it
before you stick it
Whoo
Now all you fellows sit there laughing
Let me tell you that is no stage joke
(he ain’t playing)
If you really want to please him
just find the little man in the boat
you can tease it
gently queeze it
massage him with your finger tips
But sorry fellows the job ain’t over
Until you take him between your lips
Wow
you are making him feeling good
but you can make him feel better
If you treat your man like a stamp on a letter
lick it
before you stick it
better lick it
before you stick it
lick it
before you stick it
lick it
before you stick it
lick it
before you stick it
lick it
before you stick it

If you treat your man like a stamp on a letter

Her album is EVERYTHING!!
I can’t see myself buying an album with only 8 tracks. Last few albums I bought (Usher’s “Hard II Love”, JoJo’s “Mad Love”, and Alicia Keys’ “Here”) all have at least 11 songs, and I think that’s a reasonable expectation. I will–as I have done in the past–buy a VIP tour package from Toni though. Re-release a special edition of S&C with a longer tracklist and I’ll buy.
Who tf cares how many tracks an album has? I can tell you that Alicia Keys HERE didn’t have 11 tracks of anything to listen to. That’s a pretty stupid reason to not buy an album. You probably won’t play all the tracks anyway. Albums don’t work that way. They usually pick the best of so many tracks.
Who cares? The millions who didn’t buy it.
I agree with eric. Janet Jackson did 116,000 first week with Unbreakable. Toni should have been able to pull 50K easy first week sales after being gone so long but 8 tracks is a turnoff to non-hardcore fans. She has to attract casual fans and casual r&b music consumers by making the album enticing. When people see just 8 tracks it is a turnoff, especially when it is about $15 bucks after taxes. I also think her decision to use Deadwood as the 1st single was a bad decision. That is the least memorable track on the whole album and her 2nd single came out too late to be helpful in promoting the album. I remember Janet made several appearances before her album came out. Toni should have done the same. Now I just look forward to the tour which starts in May she said so I can’t wait to buy tickets.
I don’t get the complaints about the amount of tracks on her album. Bruno Mars’ album only has 9 tracks and it went platinum. Toni’s album didn’t sell because of lack of promotion, not because she only had 8 tracks on it. And to think thats the reason why it didn’t sell is just stupid.
Bruno Mars album had 9 tracks not 8. 8 tracks feels like a rip-off and it appears like an ep you really cant get into before its over. 9 feels like it is 1 track short of 10. Perhaps Toni should have released her album as an EP instead. The Weeknd just released My Dear Melancholy at $6.99. It feels like Toni’s label is trying to charge album prices ($14 to $15 bucks) for an EP instead of charging an EP price.
Bruno Mars has fans that buy his music. Toni has fans that STEAL her music. That is the difference. She needs to find a better QUALITY of people for a fan base. BTW, the album was $9 and change for 8 tracks, not $14 like some of these liars are saying. That just goes to prove that some people will do anything to justify stealing.
Really? Weren´t her previous two top5??? Low sales I understand. Such bad position (meaning many other people sold more than you, low sales or not) I didn´t expect. Not for teh first week anyway.
Long as I live is fabulous and what we want to hear from toni. As a big fan I am sad to say that I am not feeling this album and will replay love marriage and divorce instead.. toni these songs do not do your voice and talent justice and all the songs will be soon forgotten except long as i live. Sorry
I agree. Toni you rock. This album doesnt
