Almost a decade after his death, Michael Jackson remains big business. Billion dollar business.
And the latest facet of the King Of Pop’s omnipresence comes in the form of a new Broadway production.

According to Variety, the Michael Jackson Estate and Columbia Live State have joined forces to develop a new stage musical inspired by the life of MJ.
Though presently untitled and not (publicly) attached to a theater yet, the production is scheduled to arrive on Broadway in 2020.
The show will be penned by Lynn Nottage, a two time Pulitzer Prize winner, while Tony Award winner and contemporary ballet superstar Christopher Wheeldon will direct and choreograph the production.
Given the involvement of the icon’s Estate, it’s little surprise that the spectacle’s score will feature many of Jackson’s much loved classics including ‘Billie Jean,’ ‘Smooth Criminal,’ and ‘Thriller.’
Said involvement does raise questions about how deep the show will dive into some of the darker aspects of Jackson’s narrative. But we’re excited all the same!
Much ado is made about the money making ventures using MJ’s name, but the reality is that legacies don’t extend themselves. Especially posthumously. Smart business moves around them do.
Isnt this the same estate that was crying exploitation over the MJ biopic that was made last month? Pot meet kettle much?
If it’s in the style of the Motown musical it could be amazing. If it’s more like the poorly executed Bodyguard musical, please keep it.
