Jennifer Lopez believes ‘American Idol’ is to thank for elevating her popularity after it waned. Full story below…The ‘Waiting for Tonight’ vocalist looked back on the last decade of her career with ‘Variety’. She had this to say about it. “I had the kids and wasn’t being offered a whole bunch of stuff. I really concentrated on my marriage. I was going around with Marc. I went on two or three tours with him.” Managerial changes at her label didn’t help matters either. “I realize now that it was all necessary, even though it was a tough time.”
She went on to add that she felt her public image had taken a hit following her split from Ben Affleck and was rescued by her decision to join ‘Idol.’ “It was a big turning point in my career. Everybody was like, ‘Don’t do this. Your career will be over, and they won’t offer you any movies. They’ll think you’re a joke as an artist.’ And I was like, ‘The truth is, I’m not getting offered a whole bunch of movies, so what are they not going to offer me?’”

Her public image, like really no one watching Idol was like you know what she’s so nice, I completely changed my opinion of her. No one was paying that much attention, they were just watching, it didn’t do anything for her really.
