Last week saw Teyana Taylor unleash ‘The Album’ – much to the delight of her fans.
The set’s arrival served as the manifestation of her promise to not leave a lengthy gap between 2018’s ‘K.T.S.E’ project and new material.
Offering ample incentive ahead of ‘The Album’s’ release, Taylor rolled out a slew of singles such as ‘Morning (ft. Kehlani),’ ‘We Got Love (ft. Ms Lauryn Hill),’ and ‘How You Want It? (ft. King Combs)’.
While additional guests on the set include Missy Elliott, Future, Davido, and Rick Ross.
With ‘The Album’ finally out, attention now turns to its commercial performance.
Head below for info on its first week predictions…
Per Hits Daily Double, the LP is on-course to premiere with:
27,000-32,000
[Sales Plus Streaming]
********
4,000 – 7,000
[Pure Sales]

The numbers are somewhat congruent with the broader R&B spectrum and are also in-line with Taylor’s previous effort ‘K.T.S.E’ – which opened with 23k SPS (landing at #17 on the Billboard 200).
At this juncture, though, it’s a waiting game to ascertain which position ‘The Album’ will debut in.
Because, while the global health crisis has meant labels are holding back on new releases (which theoretically means less “new” competition), a number of existing projects are still steadily selling. As such, the difference between bagging a top 10 debut or a top 30 simply boils down to how voluminous sales are overall this week.

Dialling into Taylor’s numbers a little more, the consistency is encouraging. And it’s clear there’s “an” audience there.
That said, having rooted for her for so long and observed the attention to detail in all corners of her artistry – we’d have loved for this to be more of a commercial “moment” for her.
There are variables that are no doubt out of her control (one of the most notable being the promotional limits of COVID-19). However, we continue to scratch our heads at her seeming aversion to turn up the tempo. For, once again, the lion-share of the album is slow-jam-on-slow-jam-on-yet-another-slow-jam. A choice that is kinda confusing given her social media popularity – which is very much a youth and tempo driven space (see: Instagram dance challenges and TikTok).
Put simply, she’d be well-served to drop club geared singles – even if only to still rope people into an album that flows at a slower pace. Sometimes it’s imperative to do what you have to do to put yourself in a position to do what you want to do.
Just thinking out aloud. Anyway, enough from us. What are…
I was expecting worse but this is decent
I’m impressed I won’t lie.
She exceeded my expectations
The hype the black community keeps giving f*******, if yall gave half of that hype to teyana or fka twigs or chloe and halle, by now they will be huge superstars.
She needs to collaborate with a white person that will make her cross over.
I cant think of any white pop singer either male or female that will blend well and work well with teyana.
Maybe a dance song with one of those white DJs, Calvin Harris, kygo, marshmallow, mark Ronson, zedd.
Great idea
Great idea. she needs to cross over a lil bit
No she doesn’t. And she WONT. Teyana has already stated that she’s R&B to the core. She’s not moving that goalpost. Teyana is a creative and does what she loves on her terms. She isn’t pressed to go mainstream love.
Girl where are her hits?
Just because she’s rnb to the core that doesnt mean she cant branch out
Maren Morris is a country singer but she collaborated with zedd and it was a huge top 10 hit. Received 3 grammy nominations also.
Told ya there’s some tinashe’s number 😂🤣😂🤣🤣🤣
This is actually amazing
She only has twitter and ig
And we’re in a pandemic.
She sold more than Chloe and Halle with major label support and performances
Chloe and halle have only 2 music video
1 feature on the album
13 tracks
While teyana has 24 tracks , with a dozen features and a dozen music videos.
how much did Chloe and Halle sell?
What does a number of songs have to do wit an artists promotion? Are her features promoting for her?
Honey Teyana is her own creative director, choreographer and songwriter. She finances herself for the most part. Most of the proceeds are going into HER pockets.
Beyoncé should be ashamed letting chloe and Halle flop.
Who is she, God?
She can’t even stop herself from flopping.
Chloe and Halle’s music is too advanced and intricate for the average listener. They have talent but there’s a reason why “Do It” is their only song tho make noise.
FLOP
What did she and Kanye expect? 29 songs that all suck. No promo. No singles on radio. Mess
Quality over quantity. This woman made an album. Loving this project. Strong powerful black woman that stands so beautifully.
She looks like a man with an angry face.
Just what I expected in pure sales, but she way overperformed my streaming projections, so kudos to her.
She just needs about three solid hits from this album. It would be great if they are urban hits or from other formats. Her albums usually don’t have longevity either. These numbers are actually decent for her.
Out of the 20 something songs, I can tolerate maybe 5? She didn’t offer much variety vocal or sound-wise. That will be her downfall outside of the constant 90’s sampling.
I love the whole album from start to finish! She did her thing! I hope the numbers go up!
I was really looking forward to this Album and there are some gems on it. But honestly, it’s boring. It’s way too long and sounds monotone. The cover is the most interesting thing bout it.
Chile
Even Tamar sold more
