Chris is out of his mind. I was talking to a group of people yesterday about this. All of them various ages, and all said maybe Chris Brown is current right now, but most couldn’t name more than 2 or 3 songs.
Whereas they were able to name many Usher records including album tracks from Confessions.

Everything is generational and passed down. Before there was Missy Elliott, there was Queen Latifa, before there was Destiny’s Child, there was TLC, before there was Sean Paul, there was Shaggy. Before Chris brown, there was Usher. These artists have a direct musical lineage to artists that came before them, but they each have their individual lane.
We have to give credit to Chris, in that when you think of current R&B male artists, he’s someone you never forget about. Arguably, this feat is even bigger considering the fact that his career was pretty much over about 10 years ago, and no one wanted to face the stigma of working with him. But he steadily worked his tail off and stayed relevant. Usher had the spotlight for years, decades even, but at some point, you have to be able to take a look at those who he opened the door for and what they’ve accomplished.
I think of people like Montell Jordan, Case , Chico Debarge, D’Angelo, Mario, Tyrese, Ginuwine and Tank. All these artists were major artists back during the time when Usher was in his hay-day, but where are they now? A lot of these artists weren’t able to keep up with the changing landscape of music at the time.
Chris has consistently kept his name out there for 15 years and shows no sign of stopping. He’s booked and busy probably working on new music. In terms who would “win” the battle, I don’t think there needs to be a “winner”, as I think this would have been monumental for contemporary R&B in general. People forget that in the early 2000s, R&B was such a dominant genre. That being said, Chris would have a lot to showcase if this battle went down. “No Guidance”, “Run It”, “Yo (Excuse Me Miss)”, “With You”, “Forever”, “Loyal”, “Beautiful People”, “Kiss Kiss”, “Deuces”, “Look At Me Now”, “Fine China” were all moments when they got released.
But he’s NOWHERE near Usher’s level and that’s a fact

Chris Brown is the biggest male R&B artist of his generation. None of his contemporaries have reached the heights he has reached, not even Trey. But statements like this makes him look insecure as an artist. There is nothing wrong with pay homage to someone that influenced you as an artist. Like many other young male r&b artists, there would be no him without Usher. He’s stated that twice on Vibe Magazine that he was inspired by Usher, everyone and their mamas know that he is a product of Usher. It’s obvious with his sound, style, dance moves and image. It’s the same way Usher is a product of MJ & Bobby Brown. That doesn’t mean he’s not a legend or he hasn’t influenced others. Usher was the biggest male R&B male artist of his time as well and he achieved much more heights than Chris did in his time. At some point, the man literally became biggest artist in music. At the end of day, Chris Brown just benefitted from a blueprint that was laid by, MJ, Usher, R.Kelly and Bobby Brown so he should be thankful that he’s in the position to be mentioned in the same breath as Usher.

He’s a great entertainer, He’s achieved top 10 hits in 3 decades (00s,10s,20s) and is heavily played on radio which is very impressive with everything he’s been through. But in all sincerity , he would not be the artist or entertainer he is if it wasn’t for Usher. Usher laid a foundation that CB career benefited off. Chris just needs to respect himself and the man who inspired him to be an artist. There would be no Chris Brown, without Usher.
