Despite boasting potential by the bucketload, Ciara‘s last few projects have been chart disasters. Indeed, so poorly did the singer’s recent ‘Basic Instinct’ LP perform, she subsequently severed ties with longtime label Jive.
However, in what looks like a dramatic turn of events, the 25 year old is reportedly headed back to the Sony Music family, this time under the umbrella of subsidiary label – Epic Records.

According to Billboard, the ‘Ride’ singer will reunite with the very man who signed her back in 2003 – Epic’s new head L.A. Reid. There, it is reported, she will serve as a priority for the newly restructured label.
A restructure, which insiders say includes Reid once again taking the reign of Usher’s career, and potentially bringing over Mariah Carey and Jennifer Lopez from his old stomping ground – Universal Music/Def Jam. (Though he’s been an instrumental figure in both ladies projects, a Lopez move would be particularly noteworthy. After all, he signed her to Def Jam from Epic just six months before his departure this April).
As for Ciara, should this prove accurate, this could be the spark her career has been in need of – since, at least, 2009. For, Reid’s great ear for hits and his firm business hand have seen him ascend to the ‘industry great’ status he enjoys now. However, it’d be silly to ignore his many mishaps over the years – particularly with acts he’s been handed as pet projects in the vein of Ciara (see: Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, and co). Still, a lifeline is a lifeline. We can only hope the one Epic and Reid seem to have extended to Ms. Harris proves to be a fruitful one.

Ciara needs to put out some mixtapes, remixes, promo videos. Get on an actual grind instead of just loitering around and then springing albums on folks with hardly any promotion or one or two singles (half of which usually get cancelled). She needs to be making music constantly, remixing every hot song, giving her opinion, and making some tight tight tight albums. Put out some hot ass records, send them to radio!!, and reap the rewards.

Ive listened to most of her song off off Basic Instict, and IMO their amazing but not exactly sometthing the public will get in to, i think she doesn’t sell because shes not promoted well and plus her singles aren’t all that hot and exciting like before!
The only way Ciara can make a comeback is that she stops staging paparazzi and hanging with Kim Kardashian and LaLa Vazquez. No one sees Ciara as a singer or entertainer anymore. People see her as another blog post walking down the street somewhere with the same wig.

Honestly, I think Ciara has to work the hardest she’s ever worked in her whole career in order to make a succesful comeback. Now that she’s on a new label, her main focus needs to be on her music. She needs to work with different producers and find the sound that works best for her. I think with Basic Instinct she was trying to hard to go back to her “basics” when she should have just tried something different that we had never heard from her before. I also think a lot of people have lost respect for Ciara as an artist because we see her more on blogs for basically doing nothing instead of putting out music. Sadly, she’s being seen more as a socialite lately, than a respected musician. She needs to remind people of why she is famous and prove her talent. It’s important that she gain back that repect AND her fanbase. Also, Ciara needs a new choreographer. Mostly it is gonna depend on the music. A new label & team is a good start, but if no one is feeling your music, then you wont sell albums or fill seats at a show. She may have had issues with JIVE promoting her ish, but if the music was hot her singles would have done better regardless. There have been plenty of artist whose albums flopped but still had hit singles cause the music was on point. Clearly people just weren’t feeling the music on the last albums. She needs to work with some hit song writers & producers.

I mean Ciara gave you something different on Fantasy Ride but nobody was feeling it (saying she was betraying her roots & needed to go back to them) then she did Basic Instinct (her root music & you all still didnt pay attention to it) smh… Ciara’s music changed but for some reason you IDIOTS didnt like it, now you wanna criticize her for gonig to back to a sound you asked her to do in the first place??? Ciara I hope & pray that this is the move that gets you where you wanna be in your career. You have too much potential to let the sounds of Britney Spears, Rihanna & Ke$ha fill the airwaves, you can get in on the piece of pot too. Thank you.
And another thing too… She released a song called “Gimmie Dat” which was in the format of the music you hear on the radio today… She paid for the video to be made with her own money, the label didn’t do that. The lable hasn’t supported her since before “Fantasy Ride”, but they can support HOT ASS MESS BRITNEY SPEARS!!! gtfoh!!!!

As a die hard stan of both Janet and Ciara, I need to let people know Ciara actually has a stronger voice than Janet, but Janet has a wider range. Ciara is around 2.5 octaves and Janet is around 3 octaves. But anyway, Ciara has talent. She actually can sing, she just doesn’t have a huge voice like Beyonce, Alicia, Xtina or Fantasia. Ciara writes and produces her songs and choreographs some of her dance moves and is a great performer, so for people to say she isn’t talented is just ridiculous. I am sure we won’t get another Ciara album until like the mid/late summer or early fall of 2012. I am pretty sure it’ll be a Urban/Pop sound similar to Goodies and The Evolution but with a 2012 sound and not a 2004-2006 sound. LA Reid is great at A&R, so he’ll have Ciara every where promoting this album: awards shows, BET, MTV, Vh1, E!, Today Show, GMA, Early Show, Regis & Kelly, late night talk shows, daytime talk shows, radio stations, international markets and magazine covers. Her last 2 albums both flopped for 2 reasons:
1. Lack of label support
2. Wrong single choices
Fantasy Ride could’ve sold around 5 million WW easy if the singles were chosen better. Never Ever never ever should’ve been a single, LSM was released just because JT was on it, Like a Surgeon was only released to US urban radio stations and Work was only released to international digital markets. Songs like High Price, Pucker Up, I’m On, Turntables, Echo, When I, Keep Dancin’ on Me and TMWYNI were all better singles. The same thing happened with Basic Instinct. Ride was a good song, but it wasn’t single material. Gimmie Dat should’ve been the 1st single, then Turn It Up, Yeah I Know, I Run It, Wants for Dinner, Heavy Rotation and finally Ride. She needs to release songs that have a different sound and that don’t sound like the “typical Ciara” song. She’ll be cool because LA Reid is smart.
