Fans of the late Amy Winehouse will be pleased to know new music is expected from the ‘Back To Black’ singer as early as September.  Legendary jazz/standard singer Tony Bennett (via Columbia Records) will be releasing the pair’s duet ‘Body And Soul’ next month with all proceeds going to the Amy Winehouse Foundation (a children’s charity setup by Amy’s father Mitch Winehouse).   The singer’s father is quoted as saying:

Via Mirror:

“The fact that Amy’s voice is sounding as amazing and beautiful as ever and she is singing with the great Tony Bennett seems the most fitting tribute of all at this very difficult time.”

Said to be one of the late singer’s idols, Amy joins a list of other high profile divas set to guest on the album.  Due September 20, Bennett’s  ‘Duets II’ will feature ‘Body and Soul’ as well as collaborations with Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey, and Queen Latifah.

This is gonna go number 1, but the industry is going to make so much money from her death

Now that her death has sunk in and I, and most people are done over mourning, I read somewhere that she bought drugs from a dealer a little before her death and mixed a [bad] esctasy pill with alcohol and that may have caused her death even tho there’s unknown speculation surrounding her death. In my opinion, I think she committed s******-not on the spot-but must have drugged herself to death!! She obviously didn’t care to continue with her life. Crazy! I don’t know what was goin on she must have been very depressed!

But getting to the subject, I’m pleased to hear what was in store while she was alive with the new music! Thanks for the update, sam.

Um The Single probably comes out at the end of this month grapejuice as first singles preceed albums by at least a month. Mr Bennett is donating all the proceeds from the sales of the Body & Soul single to the Amy Winehouse foundation that her father Mitch set up after she passed away. When somebody like Tony Bennett asks you to record with them you don’t say no and in Mariah’s case she’s been a friend of his almost her entire career and their duet was recorded in her home studio last february when she was 7 months pregnant with Roc n Roe. so Tony made the Joke that it was the first time he’d ever sung with a trio and by the way he adores kids having had 4 himself

I can’t say I won’t appreciate the music but I wonder why the labels put out artist music after they’ve past. Is it really all about money?

    @trucie
basicly , thats all they care about .

I can’t wait to hear the Duet! Not to mention this whole Tony Bennett Album sounds like it could be amazing, with all these artists he’s got on there with him!!

I think there’s a respectful way to release post-mortem music; The way the did it with Michael Jackson, very disrespectful and not something he would have approved of (they scrounged his unreleased catalogue and jump through an album together without his involvement or desire. He would have released those song back in ’07/08 if he wanted that album to be released.

Amy on the other hand was working on the new album, she wants this music to be heard!! This is HER project, not her labels project, so I’m not surprised, but extremely happy that her team is moving forward with the release!

@Matty, I agree…, it’s quite clear that MJ’s album was released for NO reason other than for the label to make a profit, as it didn’t satisfy his fans nor honour his memory. Amy on the other hand from what I’ve gathered was in the process of completing the album and despite it not being 100% mastered etc. I think the people who worked with her i.e. Salaam Remi, Mark Ronson, not to mention her management whom she was incredibly tight like family to…, it’s them who can vouch for the quality and confirm whether or not Amy herself would have been happy for it’s release.

Lastly, the one thing to remember about labels is that they’re the ones who profit anyway, whether the artist is dead or alive, the only difference now is Amy herself is not around to be hurt by it. Also, that in her absence from the spotlight, Amy allegedly submitted three albums worth of finished material to the label who rejected it on the basis it was too reggae (which I personally think would’ve worked) and dark (hello, that was her life at the time) and not close enough to the B2B formula that netted them millions.

Whose to say that now she’s no longer around to provide the alternative that they won’t honour what she wanted in the first place and release what she was feeling when she recorded that. For me, despite what was reported about her life…, her music and lyrical content was always strong and from the heart so as long as she meant it at the time I’ll welcome anything they put out…,

I thought this was an announcement that Amy’s final album will be due in September.

SN-I already know the name of the Gaga track…it sounds similar to the name of a Disney movie

  15. King B August 4, 2011

I’ll be sure to buy it.

And I think it’s honorable that her parents will be using the profits to help people with substance abuse, rather than their own personal gain.

  16. nice_gurl August 5, 2011

I’m glad the money will be going to a foundation.

The first funding for the Amy Winehouse Foundation will come from the release of her last recording before her death, a duet with Tony Bennett. http://bit.ly/qdFLy7
