To say the future looks bright for hitmaking rapper Future is an understatement.
Despite affording his latest album, the September 20-released ‘Mixtape Pluto,’ very little traditional promo ahead of its arrival to digital shelves, the 17-song set has been greeted with an out-of-this-world welcome.
As if making Apple Music history for seeing all of its album tracks occupy the top 17 of the platform’s real-time sales chart over the weekend, industry analysts are projecting ‘Pluto’ is also en route to making Billboard 200 history if it lives up to its predicted first-week sales.
Future’s ‘Mixtape Pluto’
Predicted First-Week Sales (SPS): 120,000 – 135,000 units
Predicted Billboard 200 Debut: #1
According to HDD, ‘Pluto’ will best stiff competition from the likes of Katy Perry, Lil Tecca, Sabrina Carpenter, and Travis Scott to claim the top spot of next week’s Billboard 200.
Should the prediction ring true, Future (born Nayvadius Wilburn) will enter the all-genre chart’s history books for multiple reasons.
Most pertinent is him becoming the first Black performer ever to score three #1 albums in a calendar year, having already celebrated two chart-toppers with the Metro Boomin-assisted ‘We Don’t Trust You‘ and ‘We Still Don’t Trust You‘ earlier in 2024.
Next, he will surpass King of Rock N’ Roll Elvis Presley‘s personal record for most #1 hits in Billboard 200 history. When all acts are considered, the win will make Future only the 9th act since the chart’s inception to have more than 10 chart-toppers.
Among Hip-Hop acts specifically, Wilburn will tie Eminem and Kanye West‘s record (11 each) and is bested only by Drake (13) and and JAY-Z (14).
As far as consecutive chart-toppers are concerned, should ‘Pluto’ hit #1 Wilburn will advance to #4 on the all-time list among Hip-Hop acts. Only West (11), Eminem (10), and JAY-Z (10) have more consecutive #1 debuts on the Billboard 200.
Keep it locked to That Grape Juice for the official chart news once the updated chart drops on Sunday (September 29).
His music slaps! In a sea of basics Pluto stands out.
