Ciara Reveals Her Smash ‘Goodies’ Almost Went to Britney Spears

Published: Thursday 10th Oct 2024 by Sam

Ciara is celebrating the 20th anniversary of ‘Goodies’ and sharing little-known details about the smash hit single and its like-titled album in the process.

During a visit to The Kelly Clarkson Show, where she also plugged new singles ‘Run It Up’ and her latest offering ‘Wassup,’ CiCi opened up about how her signature hit was almost given to Britney Spears.

Full story below…

Speaking candidly about being on the same label as Spears when the track surfaced, Ciara shared with Clarkson:

“I learned about this later, my song ‘Goodies’ – to my understanding – they were trying to take it away and give it to Britney Spears.

I know Britney was not the one trying to take my song, I love Britney and I want to say that.

At that time period, that was their plan. She was their baby and [they] had her for so long, so of course I’m this new artist. And the song is pretty amazing and I understand why. [That said] If I was writing the song for someone, I bet her singing [it] would be nice. But this song was my song.”

The song would’ve been for In the Zone and it’s weird they would go in that direction, because the only other song on the album that sounded like “Goodies” was “Outrageous”.

I don’t think it was weird because in the zone did have major urban influences to the sound of the album. Outrageous isn’t the only one; don’t forget I got that boom boom the ying yangs collab… ITZ album definitely wasn’t a cookie cutter pop album like her past 3 ones were. She even collab’d with Ryan Leslie & Diddy but that became a bonus track. Blackout proved that Britney can pull off an urban era if she had the control to do so if she ever does music again she needs to have full creative control PERIOD!

Let me find an AI version of Britney singing this now haha. Love Ciara though.

would have sounded a mess tbh and Ciara would literally not have a career. (Close to not having one now)
