A brand-new musical is on the block centered on the groundbreaking girl group TLC.

Full story below…

Award-winning writer and director Kwame Kwei-Armah is leading a new TLC musical, set to premiere at Arena Stage Theater in Washington, D.C.

The production will run from June 12 through August 9, 2026.

Still untitled, the venture offers a semi-biographical journey through the life and legacy of the group.

Comprised of Tionne ‘T-Boz’ Watkins, Rozanda ‘Chilli’ Thomas, and the late LisaLeft Eye’ Lopes, the band is the best-selling R&B trio known for hits like ‘No Scrubs’ and ‘Waterfalls.’

This marks the first official stage musical based on TLC’s story.

It stands apart from the 2013 TV movie CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story, which starred Drew Sidora, Lil Mama, and Keke Palmer. That film captured fans’ hearts, but this new production will reimagine the group’s story in a live format.

Kwei-Armah explained his inspiration for the show:

“Why a musical? Why now? Their lives need to be sung. It’s about that time!”

The musical will feature TLC’s original music, blending it into the storytelling. Choreographer Chloe O. Davis will bring the group’s energy and movement to life on stage.

Casting is still under wraps, but excitement is already building.
