The Tik Tok time machine has given an extended lifeline to yet another jam from yesteryear, and this time it’s Rihanna‘s fan-favorite ‘Breakin Dishes’ from 2007’s ‘Good Girl Gone Bad.’
Despite being nearly 20 years old, ‘Breakin’ – which previously only peaked at #4 on Billboard’s Dance Club Play Songs chart in 2008 – broke into the Hot 100 for the first time this week.
Opening at #86, the ‘Good’ deep cut comes as the week’s highest-charting female song among all new or previously uncharted tunes thanks to a viral response on Tik Tok which led to prominent playlisting placement on streamers like Amazon, Apple, SiriusXM, and Spotify in recent weeks.
Her 64th overall hit to appear on the Hot 100, ‘Breakin’ becomes the 9th tune from its parent album (and subsequent reissues) to appear on the Pop tally following ‘Umbrella,’ ‘Shut Up and Drive,’ ‘Hate That I Love You,’ ‘Don’t Stop the Music,’ ‘Take a Bow,’ ‘If I Never See Your Face Again (with Maroon 5),’ ‘Disturbia,’ and ‘Rehab.’
