He made the announcement during an interview with Forbes‘ The Enterprise Zone. He explained his vision for the project. He said:
“I want to tap into my new next level that I’ve been tapping in with. I want to introduce that, which is Splurge. This upper-echelon artist who’s gravitated to another level.”
He stopped short of locking in a date. He said he is still working on the album and does not want to rush it.
“If I feel ready, it could come out next month. But if I’m not ready, I’m not ready yet. I don’t have a date.”
The announcement came during a broader conversation about his label situation. The Last Wun was widely expected to close out his deal with Young Thug‘s YSL Records. That left questions about whether he would move forward independently or sign elsewhere.
Gunna made it clear he is not simply operating as a free agent. He said:
“I wouldn’t say apparently free. We in the works. There’s been a lot of talks of what’s being produced and who’s going to be behind me supporting it.”
He has remained active with features on Shaboozey‘s ‘High Noon‘ and Rich The Kid‘s ‘Too Bad.’ The Last Wun debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200.
