Calculated by combining the sales sales of the icon’s oft celebrated back catalog of music, the news is expected to be confirmed by Sony Music in coming weeks following Jackson’s immortalization at Grauman’s Chinese Theater on January 26th, in celebration of his impact on Pop culture.

Before MJ died a few years ago, Guinness Book of World records listed MJ at $750 million albums sold worlwide. So the billion albums sold figure sounds close to being correct.
Only The Beatles and Elvis Presley has sold 1billion records worldwide and now Michael Jackson, wow that is the Top of the line.

So it’s likely that over 25 years later The Beatles have sold 1.5b if not more. They are listed as the most successful artists beating Elvis, MJ. L&M are the most successful composers of all time and they are also the most covered artist of all time. That’s not just all time group but it beats solo artists as well. Elvis is listed as being the biggest selling solo artist of alltime NOT MJ. To this day he is still having albums certified gold or platinum and he has far more gold and platinum records than any artist or group in music history. Get mad and offensive if you want,but these are facts.Elvis and the Beatles are way ahead of Michael Jackson.

The Beatles and Elvis don’t have big selling albums where Michael Jackson has 5 albums in the top 100 biggest selling albums of all time. So logic will tell you the Beatles and Elvis sales are also exaggerated. All figures are acclaimed by their own estates.

MJ is still selling very well, Thriller, Number Ones and some of his other albums are often re entering the Billboard 200 list, his song Thriller re-entered Billboard hot 100 this last Halloween at #42, his tribute tour, the Immortal tour by Cirque du soleil has been seen by 1,5 million people and has grossed over 150 million dollar.
HOW can EElvis have sold over 1,5 billion records when he has NO big selling album?? NONE of Elvis albums is in the best selling albums list. MJ has FIVE albums in those best selling albums list, and at #1 is THRILLER, the album which is 3x DIAMOND in the US
Elvis released like 100 albums and none of them sold big, lol. If he sold 1,5 billion then at least one of his albums would be at 30 million or something. The Beatles are more believable to have sold over 1 billion because at least they have big selling albums, One of their albums sold over 32 million copies.
Now back on topic, I love MJ but I think that the 1 billion mark is a bit over exaggerated, because only his estate claim this sales figure and it hasn’t been confirmed by any credible sources. BUT MJ’s sales are DEFINITELY over 500 million with album sales, single sales, dvd/video sales, combined. With the Jackson 5/Jacksons sales it’s over 600 million. The Jackson5/Jacksons was already at 93 million records sold in 1980 and their sales have not been updated in a loong time so my guess is that Jackson5/Jacksons total record sales is around 150 million.
It MAY be true that MJ sold 1 billion records because his albums and singles sales haven’t been re-certified in a long time but until I see some more credible sources other than the MJ estate I will not 100% believe it. Still congrats if its true though, Love you MJ <3
