Oprah’s ‘Houston Family Interview’ A Ratings Winner

Published: Monday 12th Mar 2012 by Rashad

In what comes as little surprise, Oprah’s highly anticipated interview with the family of late pop icon Whitney Houston was a ratings winner – earning a record viewership for the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN).  As reports swarmed the media that Winfrey’s channel was suffering from a series of ratings slumps, the 90 minute showing, much like her very talked about 2009 interview with the pop legend herself, proved to be a ratings goldmine with initial reports indicating over 3.5 million  tuned in to see Bobbi Kristina and co. speak about the aftermath of their family life since Whitney’s passing.

Earning O a guaranteed spot in the top 5 of Sunday night’s ratings, Winfrey, the first to score an interview with the family despite less than a month passing since the untimely death of the beloved singer, is set to follow with more high profile interviews – namely pop megastar Lady Gaga.

Those who missed the interview with the Houston family can see it in its entirety here.

Oprah is a true icon. That interview was so respectful and insightful….completely blew the lies out the way…R.I.P. Whitney

I love Oprah, but honestly, I didn’t learn about anything new from that entire interview that I didn’t already know from CNN or TMZ. I think a few things were confirmed, but it wasn’t like she spilled any exclusive tea. *sips*

    3.5 million? FLOP.

Oprah couldn’t even bring in her own followers to watch that interview.

3.5 million is not a flop yawn

Oprah really needs to try and get a sit down at home interview of Jay-z/Beyonce with baby Blue Ivy on becoming new parents and how life have change for them. What’s it like being a new mom/dad. How have baby Blue change both their lives.

I WILL FOREVER LOATH & DETEST OPRAY FAT-REY!

This woman is a PARIAH! She will use anyone for ratings we saw that with the Oprah Show. It doesn’t surprise me that she would use Bobbie Kris and Co. one month after the Diva’s death (RIP Whitney) to save her fledgling network!

Oprah FAT-REY is truly a disgusting self-hating witch!

**Proud of Bobbi Kris & Patricia Houston they keep it moving & didn’t allow her to get cute! 🙂

Yes, continously cozying up the a DRUG DEALER, TRUE WOMAN BEATER (remember Foxy Brown & Amil Lions?) & A TRULY VIOLENT MAN (remember he STABBED Ung & confessed in his book Decoded?) would be a ratings boast!

Ppl are simply tired of Beyonce’s Pet camel and the Blue Ivy chatter. I wish Bey and the baby well but her pet camel can have several thorn laced seats! The damn hypocrite!

Well we all knew Oprah was doing it for the ratings come on…you can lOok anywhere and see that network of hers is failing.

I dunno, I think it’d be one thing if I thought Oprah actually cared by yo know from the second Whitney died Oprah was gunning for that interview.

I appreciate Oprah, she doesn’t disrespect the people she interviews. She still ask the hard questions and she knows where to draw the line. I think it was a very tasteful interview. I’m glad some people have Oprah to turn to when the record needs to be set straight. I’m glad Pet was able to speak her truth. I didn’t fully agree with everything, but I’m sure Whitney would be proud. There’s no spin on the interviews. People can be upset with Oprah for whatever reason when it comes to her brand of journalism, but when you think about it there’s absolutely no safer place to speak your mind.

The interview was done respectfully. It showed how Bobbi feels about her mother. Bobbi was a beautiful well spoken young lady. I was so proud of her. People you need to start watching the OWN network. There are some great shows on that channel.
