Hot Shot: Beyonce Lends Voice To World Humanitarian Day

Published: Friday 10th Aug 2012 by David

Beyonce put her star power to good use today, lending her voice to today’s ‘World Humanitarian Day‘ festivities in NYC.

Speaking at the UN Security Council an hour or so ago, the singer/songwriter also shot the video for her latest release ‘I Was Here’ at the event, all before she donates the proceeds from the single to its cause.

Unsure of what the day is in aid of?

More info below…

Mrs.Carter explained:

We all see the headlines and we think what can I really do to help?

World Humanitarian Day is an opportunity for all of us to work together to make a difference. This is our time to leave our mark on the world and show that we were here and we care.

Adding to her comments, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Valerie Amos said:

World Humanitarian Day celebrates Humanitarian work. I hope I hope everyone will pledge to complete at least one humanitarian action – however great or small – through www.whd-iwashere.org. Together we can create an unprecedented awareness of the plight of people affected by crises around the world.

I get where you’re coming from. Some celebrities, like MJ, ANgelina Jolie ect seem like they really care about the issues of the world so I can see them doing stuff like this. But with Beyonce it doesnt look sincere. it looks like a manager or someone from her team encouraged her to do this to add to her legacy so that she can be looked at as more than just a successful popstar. but you can tell that this aint something that shes passionate about. yall aint never heard Bey mention any kind of social conscious issue. she always talks about me, myself and I and her team knows that. its all to add to her legacy. and since on this blog its pick one or the other between rhi and bey, ill just say i dont stan for Rhianna either or anyone from this era of “music” all my favs are unfortunately deceased.

“Crazy in Love” was released as the lead single in mid 2003. It was lauded by critics who described it as “deliriously catchy”.[34] The single reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100, the official US singles chart, based on heavy rotation alone.[28] The same week it reached number one, Dangerously in Love debuted on the Billboard 200 at number one as well. The substantial airplay, and later in retail, gains of “Crazy in Love” facilitated it to dominate the chart,[35] subsequently spending eight straight weeks atop the Hot 100,[29] making it Knowles’ first number-one single in her solo career. According to Nielsen SoundScan, “Crazy in Love” was the most downloaded song in the United States for four consecutive weeks in July 2003.[29] It also became a success internationally reaching atop the chart in Ireland and United Kingdom.[36][37] “Baby Boy” was released as the second single in August 2003. It was well received by critics declaring it as “high-profile collaborations”,[38] also that “bridges the gap between the genres of R&B and dancehall”[39] It ultimately reaching the top of the Hot 100.[30][40] It reached the chart’s top spot eight weeks after its debut, and stayed there for nine consecutive weeks.[30][31] It peaked the top two in United Kingdom.[41]
“Me, Myself and I” was released as the album’s third single on October 2003. It received generally positive response considered it as a typical sounding R&B ballad with a familiar theme, and in which Knowles sings with passion.[42] It reached the top ten in Canada and United States.[43][44] “Naughty Girl” was the fourth single from the album released on March 2004. The song was critically lauded, citing for its sensual vibe and writing, “Beyonce borrowed a portion of Donna Summer’s naughty classic “Love to Love You Baby” to create this celebration of sensual naughtiness.”[45] Internationally, it became a top ten hit in United States, Australia, Canada and New Zealand.[46][47][48]

Over the weekend, new plagiarism charges were leveled at Beyoncé. This time, the Internet claims Bey ripped off bits for her new video “Countdown” from Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, a Belgian choreographer. The side-by-side video, above, is pretty conclusive, and Beyoncé’s co-director Adria Petty has already acknowledged the cribbing, admitting, “I brought Beyoncé a number of references and we picked some out together. Most were German” (note: she actually meant “from the much smaller country bordering Germany”) “modern-dance references, believe it or not. But it really evolved.” Here’s the thing, though: as Grantland has previously pointed out, the “Countdown” video is awesome. In fact, every time Beyoncé steals something, it’s awesome. So, with all due respect to intellectual property laws, do we really want her to stop stealing? Nothing less than our entertainment levels are at risk.

Consider the evidence: “Single Ladies” wouldn’t have existed if Beyoncé hadn’t felt comfortable borrowing from a Bob Fosse routine called “Mexican Breakfast.” Says Beyoncé, “It’s these three ladies, and one of them is Bob Fosse’s wife, and they’re doing ‘Walk it Out.’ They [switched] ‘Walk It Out’ [with] the music, it’s from like the sixties, and it’s one take… I thought, ‘wow, how amazing would that be now.’” The result, as millions of gay guys in leotards on YouTube and a drunk Kanye can attest, was one of the best videos of all time.

Then there was Beyonce’s Billboard Awards performance from earlier this year, which blew minds with its innovative screen backdrop and general intensity. A few days after that gig, it came to light that she’d stolen the whole performance from an Italian pop singer. Again, Beyoncé explained: “My makeup artist showed me the performance of Lorella Cuccarini a year ago, and it inspired me so much. I then met with the talented people who worked on it. The technology and concept were so genius. Thank god for YouTube or I would have never been exposed to something so inspiring. I never worked so hard on anything in my life as that performance for the Billboard Awards.” We’re glad you did, Beyoncé. It was really super.

But then there’s the case of the “Run the World (Girls)” video Once again, Beyoncé was inspired by something on YouTube, this time the Mozambique dance troupe Tofo Tofo. In an attempt to finally do right by her inspiration, Beyoncé had her people spend months tracking down Tofo Tofo and, with some help from the US Embassy, they hired the Mozambiquians to dance in the “World” video. The result? The worst Beyoncé video ever. Just think about what might have been if she’d “interpreted” Tofo Tofo’s style on her own.

So, sorry Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Lorella Cuccarini, and the ghost of Bob Fosse. You worked hard to create seemingly inimitable art, and it must certainly be disheartening when a huge pop star co-opts it for her own ends. But think about the greater good — when Beyoncé steals, awesome things happen for all of us. Let’s let Beyoncé steal

This all began with a cryptic message on Beyonce’s website a couple weeks ago, which read “Leave your footprint on 19 August 2012.” That was followed by a PSA video urging fans to get involved for World Humanitarian Day and Friday night Beyonce added another piece to the equation, performing “I Was Here,” at the United Nations in New York.

“Is this what happens at the U.N. every Friday night?” Anderson Cooper jokingly asked the crowd seated in the General Assembly Hall of the United Nations on Friday (August 10). “Because, I’ve gotta tell you … I wanna be here every Friday night if this goes on.”

The news anchor was referring to members of the organization and their invited guests who were gathered for a special event leading up to World Humanitarian Day, quickly approaching on Saturday. Cooper, himself a humanitarian in many respects, was on hand to host a series of interviews with local and international humanitarians that would eventually lead into a performance from Beyoncé.

The 30-year-old star had appeared at the United Nations earlier in the day, where she rehearsed her performance of “I Was Here” and met with members of the United Nations. Now, at 8 p.m. ET on Friday night, Deputy Secretary General Jan Eliasson made his way to the stage welcoming everyone to the General Assembly Hall and giving an early introduction of Beyoncé.

The look Jay-Z gives Jonathan Ross when the B** host attempts to sing a line of Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” in the interview clip below is priceless. You can catch it around the 1:50 mark: a particularly piquant version of the patented Jay-Z side-eye, an expression also displayed at the recent NBA All-Star weekend, along with so many other occasions through the years.
Hilarious, right? Really, though, Jay-Z’s entire sit-down with Jonathan Ross is worth watching. He claims at one point to have invented Beyoncé’s famous “Single Ladies” dance moves. (That’s a joke…I think.) It’s all very funny. And while Jay does a lot of kidding around, in the process Ross actually gets him to talk more about his marriage to Beyoncé than either member of the super-private couple typically does.
Watch the most LOL-filled clip from their interview below, or click over to Miss Info for more footage. Then let us know what you think of Jay’s jokes.

Tonight [she] brings more than her stunning talents; she brings inspiration to help another person, to help another human being,” he told the crowd, going on to describe “I Was Here” as a “profound and moving song.” When he slipped on the title for a second, calling the song “I Was There,” it became evident that there were some Bey stans in the audience. They quickly corrected him and joined him in laughing it off, while he added, “in fact ‘here’ and ‘there’ is the same thing — that’s solidarity.”

Eliasson would then recall a “dark day in the history of the U.N.” when 22 humanitarian workers lost their lives in a terrorist attack in Iraq on August 19, 2003. This event and World Humanitarian Day both honor those lost lives and encourage others to join the effort. After letting down the crowd by saying, “Sadly, I will not be dancing to my rendition of ‘Single Ladies’ tonight,” Anderson Cooper hosted individual interviews with guests like the son of a lost humanitarian worker, a former child soldier-turned-author from Sierra Leone and even a local photographer who had worked to help homeless people.

During her sit-down with Cooper, Under-Secretary General and Emergency Relief Coordinator Valerie Amos would encourage everyone to log on to WHD-IWasHere.org by August 19 and commit to doing one good act to help someone in need, helping to reach the organization’s goal of 1 billion volunteers. Amos explained that Beyoncé was passionate about helping this cause, and she was thankful in return.

“I told [Beyoncé]: It’s great that we have her, because she can reach millions of people,” Moss said. “I could spend the rest of my life doing what I do, and I wouldn’t reach a 10th of that number. And she said: ‘Don’t sell yourself short.’ ”

When Beyoncé took the stage, dressed in a skintight sequined white gown, the screens, which spanned from ceiling to floor, lit up with images of different regions around the world struck by disaster while the faces of humanitarian workers flashed. She belted out her vocals to “I Was Here,” while members of the audience sang along, and the moment ended all too quickly, but cameras rolled the entire time, capturing a music video that will premiere on August 19th. When she finished, Beyonce thanked the audience and encouraged them to do their part for World Humanitarian Day. When she finished, Beyoncé thanked the audience and encouraged them to do their part for World Humanitarian Day.

“I’d like to ask everyone to make sure they’re a part of August 19th,” she said of commemorating the Iraq terror attack. “It’s such a beautiful, beautiful day, and I’d like to honor the 22 people who lost their lives. God bless you all. Thank you so much for having me.”

The dance choreographed by bob fosse originally was much slower paced, her dance was sped up and she added much more funk to hers. Also the costumes he wore we’re inspired by his love for simplicity. Dangerously in Love debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200 chart, with sales of 317,000 copies according to Nielsen SoundScan.[31] Although the album’s first-week sales failed to match that of Survivor which sold 663,000 units in its debut in 2001, Knowles earned the highest among Destiny’s Child members’ solo albums by best weeks: Rowland sold 77,000 copies for Simply Deep in its strongest week while Williams earned 17,000 copies for Heart to Yours in its top week.[31] The album has been certified four-time platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).[60] Dangerously in Love remains as Knowles’ best-selling album to date,[61] with cumulative sales of 4,825,000 copies in the United States as of March 2012.[62]
Internationally, Dangerously in Love had similar commercial reception. On July 12, 2003, Knowles became the first female artist (and the fifth artist ever) to top both the singles—with “Crazy in Love”—[63] and albums chart simultaneously in the United States and the United Kingdom, following The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, Rod Stewart, and Men at Work. As of June 2011, the album has sold over 1,150,000 copies in the United Kingdom,[64] and the British Phonographic Industry has since certified the album double platinum.[65] Dangerously in Love is the 15th best-selling album of 2003 in the United Kingdom.[66] In Australia, it reached number two; the album was certified triple platinum by the Australian Recording Industry Association for sales of 210,000 copies.[67] In 2003, Dangerously in Love was the 51st best-selling album in Australia, and the 74th the following year.[68][69] To date, the album has sold more than 17 million copies worldwide and it single surpass a sale of 18 million world wide

It’s been a tough year for celebrity couples. From Katy Perry and Russell Brand to Heidi Klum and Seal to Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher and, ultimately, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, the love affairs of the rich and famous seem to be falling apart everywhere these days. Still, there are some couples out there in Tinseltown and beyond who have not only managed to stay strong but are also laughing all the way to the bank together.
        Advertise | AdChoices

Take Beyonce Knowles and Jay-Z, for example. Last year’s runners-up on the list of The World’s Highest-Paid Celebrity Couples, the duo has now climbed one spot to top this year’s ranking. Knowles, who took a break from her hectic touring schedule in 2011 to give birth to daughter Blue Ivy Carter, still collects big paychecks from old hits. Besides, the singer’s new album went platinum in the U.S., not to mention her non-musical ventures and endorsement deals, which all helped to bring her total earnings between May 1, 2011 and May 1, 2012 to $40 million, according to data from the latest Celebrity 100 list.
More from Forbes.com: Heidi Klum and Seal divorce: How much is at stake?
And as the male half of music’s first couple, Jay-Z isn’t far behind his wife. The hip-hop mogul made millions from “Watch the Throne,” his musical collaboration with pal Kanye West, and even more from the tour that followed. Add to that a bevy of non-musical enterprises such as ad firm Translation and cosmetics company Carol’s Daughter and the result is a staggering $38 million that he has brought home in twelve months, putting the couple’s annual income at $78 million.
Coming second on the list are last year’s winners Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady. The 32-year-old supermodel remains an unparalleled force within the fashion industry, racking up modeling gigs, endorsement deals and independent licensing ventures that bank her some $45 million a year. Brady, on the other side, this year became just the second quarterback after John Elway to lead his team to five Super Bowls, only to be defeated at the hands of the New York Giants and failing to win a fourth ring.
Don’t feel sorry for him, though. Apart from his four-year, $72 million contract extension with the New England Patriots that runs through 2014, Brady is also following on his wife’s footsteps and signing modeling gigs with the likes of Under Armour and UGG Boots. On the field and off it, he made $27 million, hauling a total of $72 million along with Bundchen between May 2011 and May 2012.
More from Forbes.com: Jay-Z and Beyonce preparing for the Blue Ivy empire
The other royal couple from England, David Beckham and Victoria Beckham grabbed the third place on the list. Still strong on his hard quest to popularize soccer in America, Beckham re-signed with the Los Angeles Galaxy of MLS in January for another two years. But the player’s pot of gold is his endorsement portfolio, which includes Burger King, Sainsbury’s and Samsung. As the world’s highest-paid soccer player, he makes about $46 million a year.
And it seems like Mrs. Beckham, who’s preparing for a Spice Girls reunion performance at the London Olympics, is on her way to catching up with her husband when it comes to earnings, thanks to her passion for fashion. Victoria’s eponymous clothing range is a success, generating over $40 million annually in sales, with growth at double-digit rate. Victoria’s kickback on her fashion line of wool dresses and $3,000 purses, plus other sources of income such as royalties from Spice Girls’ hits, puts her annual earnings at $8 million — a total of $54 million for the Beckhams.
        Advertise | AdChoices

Hollywood’s most famous couple, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, came in fourth on the list, with a combined $45 million annual income. Pitt earned his third Oscar nomination this year for “Moneyball,” but yet the bigger news was his proposal to long-time partner Jolie. Balancing arty pictures like “Tree of Life” with his life as a tabloid target, he folded about $25 million. Also a tabloid-friendly celebrity, Jolie earns millions from big studio flicks, residuals and endorsement deals for companies like Louis Vuitton. Only between May 2011 and May 2012, the actress cashed in some $20 million.
Photos from Forbes.com: Highest paid models

Last but certainly not least are superstar Will Smith and his wife, the also actress Jada Pinkett Smith. After taking a short break from the big screen, Smith came back in a big way. The star of “Men in Black 3” (box office: $619 million worldwide and counting) and “After Earth,” an upcoming science-fiction thriller film directed by M. Nigh Shyamalan which co-stars his son Jaden, Smith is one of Hollywood’s most bankable actors, earning $30 million between May 2011 and May 2012.
Jada also had a good year, thanks mostly to her part on the movie “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted,” which grossed over $500 million worldwide. One of many celebrities to invest a combined total of $10 million in Carol’s Daughter, a line of beauty products created by Lisa Price, she has also acted as a spokesperson for the brand. Her earnings have totaled $10 million this year, making hers and Smith’s combined annual salary $40 million.

A Belgian choreographer has accused Beyoncé of copying the choreography for ‘Countdown’ from her dance troupe, Rosas.

“We discovered the Beyoncé clip on Friday and we noticed more than a few resemblances to the film that director Thierry De Mey made in 1997, ‘Rosas dance Rosas’ and 1994’s ‘Achterland’,” a spokesperson for the dance troupe Johanne De Bie said.

“We have passed the details to our lawyer to see about our rights,” she added.

Whether intentional or not, there are some uncanny similarities between ‘Rosas dance Rosas’ and ‘Countdown’. Both are set in warehouse dance studios, and feature dancers in similar clothing performing similar moves.

Rihanna’s exact pair of Dark Denim Flag Print Hotpants are sold out, but Topshop have two similar pairs in stock at the moment. You can also get a cheaper pair of flag shorts from PacSun and if you’re feeling creative, you can make your own with some fabric dye and paint.

        steal Rihanna’s look:

As reported by AOL Music, after shutting down reporters and interviewers left and right with her intimidating side-eye and remarks about their “disappointing” and “frustrating” questions, it looks like Rihanna has met her match! The singer was put on the spot by Australian comedic duo and radio hosts Hamish & Andy and exposed for “stealing” the hook for her Loud album hit “Man Down.”

During their radio interview with RiRi, Hamish & Andy recalled a previous talk with the pop star, during which they jokingly presented a possible melody for her next hit. The duo played the audio from that interview during Ri’s most recent visit.

“If you think of a tune, and you’re sort of humming something in the morning, do you call Jay-Z immediately and say, ‘How about this? Ra Pa Pa Pom Pa Pa Pom Pa Pa Pom?'” Hamish & Andy asked. “By the way, if we hear ‘Ra Pa Pa Pom Pa Pa Pom Pa Pa Pom’ in one of your songs, we’re going to know where you got it from!” they added in jest. Rihanna answered, “I wont do that to you,” as she laughed.

As Ri listened to the recording, she covered her mouth, trying to hold back her embarrassment and laughter. The “Ra Pa Pa Poms,” of course, found their way into her 2011 hit “Man Down” — as a red-faced Rihanna blurted out, still covering her face in shame.

“That is so funny! Honestly!” Rihanna exclaimed, jokingly adding, “I need a lawyer!”

Busted! Obviously, Hamish & Andy were just messing with Rihanna, but it’s great to see the interviewers hold the power over the celeb interviewee for once! Watch the hilarious video footage of Ri’s flustered realization below!

Much like Beyonce did with “Run The World”, using a preexisting track and just changing the words, Rihanna did the same thing for two records off her newest album “Talk That Talk”.

It perplexes me why artist with the ability of Beyonce or Rihanna don’t reach out to other producers with newer and fresher sounds instead of recycling beats and producers over and over.

Or if you do want a particular sound why not work with the same producers yet have them create you something fresh and new? This is just lazy.

Rihanna steals our idea for hit song!
We jokingly gave Rihanna an idea for a song when she came in for an interview in 2010.

Now, thanks to an anonymous emailer using the pseudonym “Lou” (or perhaps just a person, called Lou), we find out that Rihanna has taken the song idea and ran. Ran far away, back to America, and turned our idea into a sell out, number one, double platinum, triple gold, smash HIT.

Judge for yourself, but the evidence is all there:

Rihanna reportedly wants to set up home with Chris Brown.

Speculation they have rekindled their romance has intensified recently, after the stars both holidayed near each other in France. Now, it has been claimed Rihanna has asked Chris to end his relationship with Karrueche Tran and move in with her.

“Rihanna is convinced it’ll work this time. She and Chris had two intense days on that yacht [in France] and talked properly for the first time in years,” a source told Look magazine. “Rihanna’s asked Chris a million time before to break up with his girlfriend, but this time she believes he will do it.

“She wants him to live with her in LA once he sells his house, which is on the market at the moment.”

According to insiders, Rihanna has decided to tell her family that she wants to give her romance with Chris a second chance. The stars – who split after Chris was convicted of assaulting Rihanna three years ago – are also eager to seek approval from Rihanna’s mentor Jay-Z.

“Jay-Z knows this has to be dealt with very carefully because Rihanna could suffer a backlash,” the source added.

On Friday, August 10th, Hollyscoop.com ran a report claiming that an exhibition boxing match was in the works between music stars Drake and Chris Brown.

After several offers, it looked like the newfound rivals were set for a September 22nd showdown at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada, that would feature three one-minute rounds as well as 24 oz. gloves.

Drake, Brown, and their entourages got into a well-documented brawl in June inside of W.i.P. nightclub in New York that was said to have stemmed from their love interests in Brown’s ex-girlfriend Rihanna.

Anyone looking forward to a Drake-Chris Brown scrap will just have to wait, it seems, as it appears that talk of such a fight is nothing more than rumors at this point.

An article by RumorFix.com posted earlier today claims that representatives for both camps have came forward to deny that the bout is going to happen.

Brown’s rep stated that their man ‘Never was’ going to fight and called this simply ‘a sad attempt at PR for the people who were/are promoting it.”

Rumours began swirling yesterday that Chris Brown and Drake had finally agreed to air out their differences in a charity fight, but reps for both artists have denied the claims.
Several boxing promoters have come forward to offer the Young Money rapper and ‘Turn Up The Music’ singer the chance to end their ongoing beef in the ring, in light of the club brawl in June. Hollyscoop.com reported yesterday that both Chris and Drake had finally agreed to a showdown at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on September 22.
They even claimed that Eva Longoria’s ex-husband Tony Parker, who was injured during the fight, would referree the fight.
However, individual reps for the pair have shot down the rumours with Chris’ spokesperson telling RumorFix, the singer “never was” going to fight and that the claims are “a sad attempt at PR for the people who were/are promoting it.”

Rihanna has no problem baring her bikini body for her more than 24 million Twitter followers on a near-daily basis, but this time, the singer is letting down her guard emotionally as well.
The “We Found Love” singer, 24, sat down with Oprah Winfrey for an episode of Winfrey’s “Oprah’s Next Chapter” recently and candidly opened up about her controversial relationship with her ex, Chris Brown.
        PHOTOS: RIHANNA’S SEXIEST MOMENTS
“It was embarrassing. It was humiliating. I lost my best friend,” she said. She told the talk-show host of how she reacted after the pair split up. “I was resentful. I held a grudge. I was dark.”
Rihanna and Brown, 23, had a very public falling out in 2009 after Brown physically assaulted her on the eve of the Grammys, leaving her black and blue.

Everyday, she needs to get naked on her tour or shading someone more relevant than herself (aka Lady Gaga) to get the headlines. But, fortunately, her gimmick is already dated. Susan Rice, is on her way to the Olympics’ closing ceremony), but what we do know is that Beyonce will sing “I Was Here” to honor World Humanitarian Day on August 19.

A music video of Friday’s event, produced by Ridley Scott & Associates, directors Kenzo Digital and Sophie Miller and the award-winning advertising agency Droga5, will be filmed of tonight’s performance.

The objective: To get 1 billion people to view the video – and learn about the campaign.

      World Humanitarian Day

Adding to the Beyonce glow will be other celebrities: American film producer Harvey Weinstein, Sean “Puffy” Combs (otherwise known as P. Ditty), designer Kenneth Cole, and some relatives of famous politicians, including Lauren Bush (the granddaughter of Bush 41 and niece of Bush 43).

World Humanitarian Day was created to mark the anniversary of the August 19, 2003 bombing of the U.N. offices in Baghdad, which killed 22 people.

The event is being organized by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), and Valerie Amos, the Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs.

“I hope everyone will pledge to complete at least one humanitarian action – however great or small – through whd-iwashere.org, said Amos. “Together we can create an unprecedented awareness of the plight of people affected by crises around the world.”

World Humanitarian Day spokesperson Kirsten Mildren told CBS News it is an occasion to honor “all humanitarian aid workers who have died, but it is also about people helping their communities after a disaster. Syria is obviously a priority right now, but this is a day to highlight small acts around the world, good deeds.”

But, we wonder, will this normally staid group of diplomats shake a bit, dancing to the sounds of Beyonce, who looked quite conservative herself when the Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter-actress met with U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon at rehearsal?

With deadlock in the Security Council on Syria, some are wondering if this could bring diplomats together.

Mildren said, “I can’t imagine that anyone won’t be completely moved by this event. The General Assembly has never seen anything like this before. You will definitely see people up on their feet.”

Ear we go! Beyonce wears humongous gold earrings ready to film music video for the United Nations

Wherever she goes she ensures she stands out to keep up with her superstar persona.
And Beyonce even kept that mantra up today as she visited the United Nations in New York ready to mark World Humanitarian Day.
The Crazy In Love hitmaker turned up to meet U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in a relatively straight laced outfit.

How big are they?! Beyonce turns up to the UN General Assembly Hall in New York with enormous earrings on as she chats to U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon
Her ensemble consisted of a white shirt and jacket over black trousers.
And she even kept her usually flamboyant hair low key with it scraped back into a bun.

Ready to perform: She will take the stage tonight for World Humanitarian Day
But one thing that didn’t go unnoticed was her enormous gold earrings.
The chunky jewellery accessories looked heavy and excessively big hanging from her ears.
Nevertheless she looked demure as she chatted away to the South Korean leader.
But it was the calm before the storm as she was preparing to take the stage to perform in the U.N. General Assembly Hall in the Big Apple ready to film a brand new music video.
She is set to perform power ballad I Was Here to mark the special day tonight – although it actually takes place on 19 August when a video of the performance will be aired.
The show will be filmed tonight in a bid to try and get one billion people to view the clip with the aim to urge her fans to learn all about the campaign – which was set up to mark the anniversary of the Baghdad bombings.
In August, 2003 the U.N. offices in the city were targeted, causing 22 deaths.
And she is expected to perform in front of several celebrities, but so far the details have been kept under wraps.
All proceeds of the single and video will go towards the United nations.

So let me get this straight. Harry Belafonte called her and her hubby out for not doing enough and then she jumps on the humanitarian band wagon but use it to make a video for her song? How is this selfless? I’m just saying. When Angelina and Alica and the rest of them speak a tthe UN they are there to speak and to promote the effort not their work, but of course the stans will continue to be sheeple and praise her, this should be the norm not the exception. For my fave this is a way of life, she puts her money where her mouth is and she is deeply rooted in the work and the outcome, so stop the she is slaying your fave because she is not even close. She should have lunch with my fav who happens to be one of her best friends and ask her how it should be done.

Beyonce has been called out again for her fake songwriting – Oh look, it must be Thursday!
The latest instance comes from hit music producer Soundz, who went into great detail on Beyonce’s bogus writing credits during an interview with That Grape Juice (I can put our blogger beef aside for a quick moment for this). Soundz, who produced Ciara’s “Gimmie Dat” and Rihanna’s “Skin”, spilled the beans on Bey when discussing Usher and Beyonce’s duet “Love In this Club Part II”, which he also produced.
“No no no {laughs}! Beyonce didn’t do it [write “Love In This Club”]. She’s an artist who believes that she’s a superstar and she needs superstar writers to write for her…”
“I rather a person be a superstar than be a superhuman,” he continues. “I think that singers are supposed to be like superheroes; they’re supposed to do things that we can’t do. When I do a song, Beyonce knows she does things that no one can do so she realises that she doesn’t have to write it; she’ll just cut the hell out of it.”
He then continued when questioned as to why Beyonce’s name appears on all her writing credits if she didn’t actually write or arrange the songs, revealing that Beyonce still takes a whopping TWENTY PERCENT of the song’s publishing despite not actually having done anything to warrant it.
“Well, she promotes the record to the highest level. She’s the best in the game at promoting a record and when she does one of your records you’ll get a single, radio, commercials and movies. There are so many different types of money that comes with Beyonce when you do a record for her so it’s kind of like the price of admission – the price to get all the other aspects is that you have to pay a little bit.
“She’ll want a little publishing and that’s guaranteed; she’s going to ask for it and you’re going to give it to her; no ifs, ands or buts. She’s going to make that record the biggest hit in the world so give her that publishing. She’ll take about 20%.”
So he’s basically saying that Beyonce almost runs her own type of payola scheme — which is illegal — for all her music. “Hey, I’ll get your song on the radio, but only if you pay me 20% of the publishing.”. Meanwhile the songwriters who worked hard on actually writing the lyrics and arranging the music are unjustly having money they’re entitled to taken out of their pockets and handed over to a woman who already has annual earnings of $87 million (according to Forbes).
Sure, these writers could just decline to work with her, but put yourself in their shoes – If you were a struggling songwriter, wouldn’t some cash look better than no cash at all?
It also has to be remembered that Beyonce is still receiving a cut of the mechanical royalties from her record sales, which she is rightfully entitled to and are taken from the actual record sales. It’s not like the woman is receiving nothing for all her hard work.
Anyway, after the interview broke earlier Soundz Twitter page was stormed by a mob of angry Beyonce fans (who were proven in a 2009 academic study to be the “least intelligent” music fans), who flooded the producer with abuse and caused him to Tweet, “Haha at all the stans, man I gotta watch what I say on interviews, didn’t mean any harm…”.
I look forward to the release of Beyonce’s fourth studio album next year – not for the music, but because I’m sure we’ll get a fresh wave of scandals to further expose this woman as the most corrupt popstar of our generation.

The singer, who will appear on Oprah’s show this week, recorded the interview in Barbados this week, and is talking about the 2009 assault by her then-boyfriend that ended with her in hospital and Chris being taken to court.

“It was embarrassing. It was humiliating. I lost my best friend,” Rihanna tells Oprah on the show. And she also says that things got pretty ‘dark’ following the assault, which happened on the eve of the Grammy Awards in 2009. “I was resentful. I held a grudge. I was dark,” she confesses.

      Ugly c*** other off

      • jheeez August 11, 2012

My gast was unutterably flabbered earlier this week when record producer Bangladesh ‘revealed’ that Beyonce does not write her own songs.

Actually, no, it wasn’t. I’m lying, just as the record business has lied to us about this matter of songwriting credits for as long as any of us can remember and, indeed, way back beyond that.

In the words of Bangladesh himself, “It really doesn’t matter if Beyonce is actually sitting there physically writing the song. Even if she’s not, it don’t mean she can’t. She might not have the time.”

OK. let’s try this in a slightly different context. “It really doesn’t matter if Beethoven actually sat there physically writing The Ode To Joy. Even if he didn’t, it don’t mean he couldn’t. He might not have had the time.”

Let me repeat that final clincher. “He might not have had the time.”

Visions of old Ludwig Van swim into my mind. He’s just dashing off to an urgent meeting in a Viennese coffee shop to launch a new line of Ludi-V sneakers, or maybe a Vanman aftershave. Clearly, then, no time to write an immortal melody. He shouts to his missus. “Sorry love, must dash. Could you just knock off a fabulous melody, arrange it, orchestrate it and, oh, if anybody asks, just tell them that I wrote it.”

        Hmmm. Grrrrr. Hack. Blood. Spit.

The way Bangladesh explains it, the only reason that I, for example, didn’t write Yesterday, Moon River or Sweet Child O’Mine, is probably just that I didn’t have the time?

Truth to tell, of course, I’m not naive enough (is any of us?) to have imagined for one second that Beyonce wrote her songs.

It has been common practice for the music biz to lie about who writes songs ever since the invention of copyright made it possible to earn cash money for fitting words to a tune.

Back in the day, when music was just kind of in the air for anyone to use, it was common practice to re-use someone else’s tune, dress it up in a slightly different arrangement, and call it your own work. Baroque music is jammed to the gills with identical melodies lifted by one composer from another. Folk songs frequently re-used the same tune and major chunks of old lyrics.

It might be annoying, but it wasn’t a legal problem because there was no copyright and not a lot of money to be earned anyway from the actual melody.

Orchestral composers tended to be paid lackeys of rich courts. They were on the staff. There was no question of them earning gazillions in royalties because there was no royalty system for music until 1831.

Yes, there was money to be earned from sales of sheet music, because publishing royalties (ie ongoing payments for stuff printed on paper) had been established much earlier, but the development that really upped the ante and transformed the ownership of music rights into a billionaire-making business was the arrival of the gramophone record.

Once those groovy little biscuits started selling like cakes (hot, cold, who cares? It’s about numbers.) the little matter of who ‘owned’ the music on them became really significant.

Most composers in the 1920s and 30s – especially blues and folk composers – still regarded music as something that was in the air, something universal, common property or something that was transmitted to them/through them from the lord, (let’s not get into how mad that concept was) rather than as something that one individual could own.

Music publishers, of course, knew better. It became standard practice to have such composers assign their copyrights to the publishing houses. The publishers got rich, the composers starved.

Starvation, misery and poverty of course, were a constant source of inspiration for songwriters. Thus the music publishers were clearly doing them a huge favour by allowing them to enjoy the creative benefits of this situation.

By the 1950s, hick songwriters were still no wiser, so names such as Elvis Presley (performer) and Alan Freed (deejay) were routinely added to the composer credits of songs which they, as Bangladesh has now made so luminously clear, just “didn’t have the time” to write themselves. What they did have, however, was a path to the lucrative market place. Thus, songwriters were thrilled/dead chuffed/obliged/pressured to give up a portion of their copyright earnings in order to achieve the kind of sales an Elvis could bring them. The logic is obvious. 5% of $1m is better than 100% of nothing.

Things took a further twist in the 60s when record buyers began to perceive it as important that an artist should write his or her own songs. Blame it on The Beatles and Bob Dylan, mostly.

Record consumers wanted to believe that the artists they bought were not part of the old Tin Pan Alley system where specialist craftsmen wrote songs and specialist singers sang them.

The 60s generation wanted authenticity. They wanted the songs to be the voice, the thoughts, of the artists they loved.

This was fine in the case of The Beatles and Bob Dylan who actually could write songs (let’s put aside Bob’s numerous plagiarisms for the moment).

Before long, hip music lovers felt that The Searchers, for example, were not as cool as The Beatles, because they did not write their own songs.

By the early 70s singer-songwriter was the tag everyone aspired to. To be such a creature was to be the real deal. Authentic. Sincere. Confessional. Soul-baring. Whatever.

Since then, the practice of pretending that singers write their own songs has become so commonplace that most consumers barely even give it a moment’s thought.

As the market for music spread out across the world, artists who might once have regarded themselves as successful if they sold a lot of records in their home territory, were now raking in cash from all corners of the globe. Gold discs were once a big deal. Now it’s multi-platinum or nothing.

Today, creating the illusion that a singer writes his or her own songs is an absolutely standard part of the image-creating machinery. You can think of it as being like the make-up they wear to look good in the videos. Or the fabulously expensive clothes they troll around sleazy bars in at night. Or the charities they so publicly support, usually shortly after they’ve been exposed as toads in some tabloid scandal. It’s all about image.

For Beyonce (or whoever) to ‘write’ ‘her own’ songs is just another element in fabricating the image which sells an artist’s products across the globe.

Ultimately, of course, the problem is much bigger than whether or not Beyonce writes ‘her own’ songs.

The problem is that the lie is so universal, so commonplace, so widely accepted, so corrupting of all the values that we like to imagine our culture, our society, is built on.

It’s a lie which, yet again, exposes big business as perfectly willing to trade and profit on our desire for authenticity by lying to us about it, and by routinely cheating creative people along the way.

Worse, it’s just one of countless lies which have become so intricately woven into our social fabric that we no longer even bother to rail against them. To go a bit metaphorical (bear with me on this one) they’re the dropped stitches and torn strands in the increasingly shapeless woolly jumper of society. Eventually the jumper will simply disintegrate. It might still exist but it will be useless. Sure as hell, it won’t provide us with any warmth or comfort.

These are the lies fed to us by cynical governments, by individual politicians, by business leaders, by corporate bodies, by spin doctors and, ashamed as I am to have to say it, by a battered and despairing media which repeats and mouths and exaggerates all of those lies to help sell magazines and suck in viewers and listeners and surfers to tv and radio and the internet.

Copyright lies are just another one of those.

And as long as we just accept them, we will continue to deserve every lie we get told.

A controversy arose over the writing credits on “Irreplaceable”. Ne-Yo told MTV: “Apparently Beyoncé was at a show somewhere and right before the song came on she said, ‘I wrote this for my girls’ and then the song came on … The song is a co-write. I wrote the lyrics, I wrote all the lyrics. Beyoncé helped me with the melodies and the harmonies and the vocal arrangement and that makes it a co-write. Meaning my contribution and her contribution made that song what it is.”[11] In 2011, Ne-Yo said that he wrote the song for himself, but thought that it would be better suited for Knowles, and later regretted giving the song to her.[12] Some of Knowles’ fans read Ne-Yo’s remark as disrespectful towards her.[13] However, he clarified his comment later through Twitter, writing, “I said I originally wrote the song for me. … Once I realized how the song comes across if sung by a guy, that’s when I decided to give it away.”[13]

Beyonce Knowles Fake Songwriting Outed By Producer Bangladesh – Poor Beyonce, this woman can not catch a break, after almost getting hit by a crazy driver in the UK, super producer Bangladesh have confirmed what people have been saying all along-Beyonce doesn’t write her songs, she simply pays for the credit.

Bangladesh who wrote and produced the songs “Video Phone” and “Diva” from the singer’s “I Am… Sasha Fierce” CD did a lengthy interview with B*****.com where he revealed :

“It doesn’t matter who’s writing the songs, or who’s producing the songs. It’s who’s delivering the mother fu*ker. It really doesn’t matter if Beyonce is actually sitting there physically writing the song. Even if she’s not, it don’t mean she can’t. She might not have the time. It doesn’t matter, because you can work with artists who write, or work with artists that’s Beyonce’s level… For me… It doesn’t matter. The people outside looking in, they wanna know if she writes her own songs or if she ain’t. At the end of the day, she’s on a level where things are handed to her; people wanna be a part of what she’s doing. She either wrote it, or she can put her name on it – it doesn’t matter because that’s the boss you are.”

OMG we are shocked, just kidding. We all know that Beyonce is a very talented lady with incredible vocal cords.
So we have no idea why she has to twist people like BC Jean’s arms or break Rob Fusari’s legs or punish Ne-Yo just to get her name under a track.
Everyone else pays -hell some even have s** for tracks, so we are baffled as to why she will not confess to buying songs like the rest of her peers.

Someone should tell Beyonce to let go her father’s deceitful ways of doing business and just admit to paying for songwriting credits for tracks.

BEYONCE and Rihanna are competing to be the star of a movie remake.

The pop rivals are said to be at the top of the list of potential lead actresses in a new version of Eighties hit movie The Bodyguard which starred Whitney Houston as a pop diva who falls for her protector, played by Kevin Costner.

“The crucial thing about this movie is that the star has to be able to sing and act,” reveals a movie insider. “Beyonce has already established herself as an actress so she is the clear favorite for the role right now but it depends if they want to go for someone younger like Rihanna.”

The Proposal star Ryan Reynolds is among those tipped to take Costner’s role.

Rihanna has spoken out about her assault at the hands of Chris Brown, describing the attack as “embarrassing and humiliating”.

The ‘Talk That Talk’ star’s relationship with Brown ended after he attacked her on the eve of the Grammy Awards in 2009 and was subsequently sentenced to five years of probation and six months of community labour.

The pair have since sparked controversy, however, after they teamed up for a remix of Rihanna’s track ‘Birthday Cake’, and their relationship has become the source of much speculation amidst rumours that they may rekindled their romance.

Now, speaking to US chat show host Oprah Winfrey on her Next Chapter show, Rihanna opened up about the incident, revealing: It was embarrassing. It was humiliating. I lost my best friend. I was resentful. I held a grudge. I was dark.
Previously, Rihanna has defended her decision to work with Brown again by insisting she didn’t think their collaboration would be a problem, and also claimed that her personal relationship with the singer is a private matter. Her association with Brown has drawn criticism from some quarters, however – in recent months, both her former church pastor and domestic violence experts have warned the singer not to become too close to her former flame.

Brown, meanwhile, found himself in the headlines again last month (July 28) after he reportedly aimed a homophobic incident at fellow singer Frank Ocean. He later seemingly distanced himself from the allegations, however, writing on Twitter: “My Opinion on the whole Frank Ocean subject is ……… Love who u wanna love. It’s ur decision. People stop searching for BS.”

Rihanna, who was ditched as the face of skincare company Nivea for falling foul of their family-friendly image earlier this week (August 8), leads the nominations in this year’s MTV Video Music Awards with five nods. A leading choreographer has accused Beyoncé of “stealing” dance moves, after the American singer launched her latest music video.

According to entertainment website AceShowbiz.com, choreography in the video for Beyoncé’s new single Countdown, released last week, shows a number of similarities with work by the Belgian choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker. Speaking to a Danish blog, De Keersmaeker said she had not been asked permission: “I didn’t know anything about this. I’m not mad, but this is plagiarism.”

Two routines in the video, which shows Beyoncé and her backing dancers in a number of disused buildings, have come under scrutiny. One creates a split-screen effect, with the singer looking to camera through a window on the left, while three female dancers perform a ballet routine in the background on the right. A remarkably similar effect and movements appear in De Keersmaeker’s first work with her company, Rosas Danst Rosas. Another sequence strongly resembles choreography from Achterland, a filmed version of which won the Dance Screen award in 1994.

Beyoncé has not responded to the allegations, but her co-director, Adria Petty, has previously spoken about showing the singer footage of European contemporary dance for inspiration. She told MTV News: “I brought Beyoncé a number or references and we picked some out together. Most were German modern dance references, believe it or not.” Petty said the process was “evolving [and] spontaneous”.

It is the second time Beyoncé has been accused of plagiarism this year, after choreography and visual effects for her performance of Run the World (Girls) at the Billboard Music awards in May was likened to one by Lorella Cuccarini. In that instance, Beyoncé subsequently admitted having been inspired by Cuccarini.

De Keersmaeker has been a major force in contempoary dance for more than 30 years, creating work that has received critical acclaim and popular success around the world. In a 2009 profile, the Guardian’s Sanjoy Roy described her as “a difficult choreographer with a popular following, a minimalist with a tendency to dramatise, a reiticent person with a lot to say”.

De Keersmaeker continued: “What’s rude is that they don’t even bother about hiding it. They seem to think they could do it because it’s a famous work … Am I honoured? Look I’ve seen local school kids doing this. That’s a lot more beautiful.”

How cute is Beyonce with her little nephew Daniel? We’re not used to seeing her in such a mommy role. She comes across like more of a pop star sensation than a domestic goddess, especially with all of the latest rumors flying around. There’s the one about her supposedly feuding with Dreamgirls co-star Jennifer Hudson, and the one about her secretly getting married to Jay-Z this weekend. Now here’s another one to add to the list. Beyonce claims to be 25, but new evidence says she actually may be 7 years older. Mediatakeout reports:

Winfrey admitted she was surprised by Rihanna’s tender candor. “I thought she would have been kind of a bad-ass kind of a rocker hard-edge woman — nothing could have been farther from the truth,” she said. “She was thoughtful. She was very emotional. She was vulnerable.”

    Hey haters,

Why are u pondering whether or not it’s “sincere” with Beyonce? Bey’s part is to use her celebrity to bring awareness to the cause. She has done just that. Now DO YOUR PART. They said do something for someone however great or small. Your part has nothing to do with Beyonce. Everybody has their mind set as to Beyonce by now. It’s all honky dory to point fingers at someone standing up there. Whether you think she’s sincere or not, her role in this campaign is more than any of you has contributed. How many people knew WHD is on Aug. 19th ? I digress

    Haters will hate …..

God bless you Bey. Keep doing you.

Post-split, “I was resentful. I held a grudge,” Rihanna admitted. “I was dark.” Rihanna and Brown, 23, have since reconciled, both personally and professionally; a source told Us Weekly they hooked up “on-and-off” for nearly a year in 2011, and the two collaborated on two remixes in early 2012.

Oprah Winfrey isn’t afraid to ask tough questions, as Rihanna quickly learned when the 58-year-old TV mogul interviewed her for “Oprah’s Next Chapter.”
When asked about her former relationship with Chris Brown, who pleaded guilty to physically assaulting her in February 2009, Rihanna teared up. “It was embarrassing. It was humiliating. I lost my best friend,” the 24-year-old pop star said.

Rihanna was confronted by Australia’s Hamish and Andy who insist she stole their idea for a song. Last time she was on the show the radio hosts jested with Rihanna about how she comes up with ideas for songs: “If you think of a tune instead of humming something in the morning do you call Jay Z and go ‘Rapapapa?’”

The hosts quickly went all legal: “By the way if we here “Rapapapa” in one of your songs we’re going to know where you got it from.”

Rihanna promised she wouldn’t steal the tune but, lo and behold, a sneakily similar sound is in “Man Down.” Embarrassing! Thankfully, the radio hosts were forgiving but suggested they re-release the song as a collaboration.

      Watch it here:

Remember when Beyonce was talking about how she wrote all the songs on “B’Day” and how writing her own songs was so awesome and liberating? That chick was lying, son!

Of course we’re sure you knew that, but just in case the stans still don’t believe…

Music producer Soundz, who’s worked with Rihanna, Justin Bieber, and Ciara, says that Houstonian Beyonce isn’t the songwriter she claims to be. (He produced Usher’s song “Love in the Club Pt. II” that featured Beyonce.) So why does her name get listed as one of the writers when she had no input? According to Soundz, it’s all about money and power, and she does it because she can.

Well, she promotes the record to the highest level.

She’ll want a little publishing and that’s guaranteed; she’s going to ask for it and you’re going to give it to her; no ifs, ands or buts. She’s going to make that record the biggest hit in the world so give her that publishing. She’ll take about 20%.

We’re a little conflicted on this one. On the one hand, this obviously isn’t the first time we’ve heard that Beyonce is a lying-a** liar and a theiving-a** thief. But on the other hand, we kinda have to question this guy Soundz’ credibility.

      • jheeez August 11, 2012

It is said that she has stolen her moves from Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, a Belgian dance-choreographer who is said to have one of the biggest names in modern dance. According to the choreographer, Beyonce has stolen moves from not just one but two of her choreographies, Rosas danst Rosas, and Achterland.

And that’s not all this star has “borrowed” for her upcoming video. Not only did she look to Keersmaeker’s dance moves for inspiration, according to myfoxdc.com her video also showed a remarkable resemblance to the costumes, set, and even shots from the film by Thierry De Mey.

So what’s up with this? Did the mom-to-be and her team just run out of ideas and had to start borrowing elsewhere? Or was the star simply unaware that the routines and costumes weren’t original?

Keersmaeker is definitely not pleased with this situation.

Gather reported, “I’m not mad, but this is plagiarism. This is stealing. What’s rude about it is that they don’t even bother about hiding it,” the choreographer said.

Check out the short clip below to see the similarities between Beyonce’s performance and Keersmaeker’s routines.
