Ms. Taylor was working as an EMT in Louisville at the time of her passing and was asleep when officers, who say they were carrying out a drugs raid, shot her at least eight times as she was sleeping.
Her family are now seeking answers from authorities.
According to the lawsuit, filed April 27, Louisville police executed a search warrant at Taylor’s home, looking for a man who did not live in Taylor’s apartment complex and had already been detained when officers came to Taylor’s apartment after midnight.
Taylor’s boyfriend, a licensed gun owner named Kenneth Walker, was also in the apartment and shot at officers (who he thought were intruders) when they attempted to enter their home without announcing themselves.
The lawsuit claims that police fired more than 20 rounds of ammunition into their living space.
None of the officers were arrested, but Walker faces charges of first-degree assault and attempted murder of a police officer.
