The case of “missing” woman Carlee Russell gripped more than the nation, it gripped the globe.
As widely reported, the Hoover, Alabama native vanished on the evening of July 13 after calling the police and claiming that she witnessed an abandoned toddler wandering alone on the interstate.
Responding officers found Russell’s wig and phone, prompting a mass search for the seemingly “missing” victim – as well as the child she alleges to have seen.
The 25-year-old surfaced at her parent’s home on July 15, generating jubilation amongst the many who had willed her safe return.
However, a press conference held by Hoover Police Department today (July 19) has revealed that there’s way more to the case. The type of “more” that can – and already is – raising eyebrows.

An avalanche of fresh findings were shared including the fact that:
- Russell alleged she was kidnapped and unpacked a detailed account of her experience – such as a timeline, assailants, and more. However…
- Data showed that Russell made internet searches about the hostage movie ‘Taken’ and other suspicious terms in the run-up to her “abduction.”
- Specialized teams were assembled to analyze various technical components of Russell’s claims. One of the most glaring was the 600 yards her vehicle traveled (according to cell phone pings) while simultaneously alleging to see the toddler.
Hoover PD notably did not make any inferences nor did they specify what their stance is. They also stressed that the investigation is ongoing. Yet, social media is having a field day with the information presented and drawing damning conclusions about Russell and the veracity of her story.
