Simone Biles is no stranger to breaking records, but this week she saw flipped, twisted, and twirled into Olympic history books thanks to the capture of yet another medal at the global game.
Leading teammates Suni Lee, Hezly Rivera, Jordan Chiles, and Jade Carey, Simone snatched the gold medal in the women’s gymnastics final event on Tuesday (July 30).
Coming as the 8th win of her career, Biles now stands as the most-decorated American Olympic gymnast ever – breaking a tie with the iconic Shannon Miller. Miller, on hand to witness the historic event, cheered as the record-breaking moment occurred.
What’s more, Simone isn’t done competing this year and has other opportunities to win even more medals in the coming weeks to extend the title.
Among all Olympic American athletes, swimmer Michael Phelps is the most-decorated of all time as he boasts a whopping 28 medals (23 of which are gold).
