Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers Apologize After Jasmine Crockett Backlash

Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers are walking back remarks made about Rep. Jasmine Crockett on their podcast.

The ‘Las Culturistas’ hosts found themselves facing backlash after comments made during this week’s “I Don’t Think So, Honey” segment. The duo weighed in on the Texas Democrat, alongside California Governor Gavin Newsom’s potential presidential bid, in a manner that didn’t land well with listeners.

Moments ago, both Yang and Rogers took to Instagram to address the controversy. Rogers shared a lengthy statement acknowledging the criticism and promising to do better moving forward.

“Hey everybody. I hear the response and I am taking every bit of it to heart, I promise. Transparency and candor matter to me, especially on the podcast. I’m a very progressive person who cares deeply about winning these elections, but my phrasing was not right. I will be more thoughtful! I really do promise.”

He added:

“I have great respect and admiration for Rep. Crockett, and I regret that my words suggested otherwise. I just want us to win and I will be better at finding ways to help.”

Yang echoed the sentiment, sharing Rogers’ statement with his own addition:

“Should not have cursorily weighed in on this. Understanding the platform and will use it more responsibly.”

During Wednesday’s podcast episode, Rogers had criticized Newsom before pivoting to Crockett. “Don’t waste your money, sending to Jasmine Crockett,” he said. “Don’t do it. You’re going to waste your money.” Yang co-signed the take.

Rogers later attempted to clarify his position, arguing that Crockett wouldn’t be able to win a Senate seat in Texas, referencing Beto O’Rourke’s unsuccessful run. The comments were swiftly met with accusations of perpetuating racist and misogynistic views, prompting the apologies.
