BET‘s ‘Being Mary Jane’ ended Tuesday night a ratings champion, reports reveal. The Gabrielle Union-led show offered the network some of its best ratings to date with a whopping 5 million tuning in to see the show’s premiere.
“An average of 3.3 million viewers tuned in to check out BET‘s first original scripted drama series, Being Mary Jane at 10 PM Tuesday, after which an immediate repeat clocked 1.8 million. BET boasted that made it the No. 1 original series debut on cable for the 2013-14 TV season.”
The premiere comes six months after the scripted drama first appeared on BET as a 90-minute film. With 4 million reportedly tuned into that July showing, BET followed with an order for a full fledged series of the Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil-penned showing.
