On Sunday evening, the ‘2014 BET Awards‘ kicked off at LA’s ‘Nokia Theatre’ packing appearancrs by August Alsina, Sevyn Streeter (above) Robin Thicke, Iggy Azalea, Nicki Minaj and ‘Loyal’ singer Chris Brown.
Today, two days later, the show’s ratings have seen it named the highest rated awards ceremony of this season, setting a number of enviable records while doing so.

Drawing in 7.9 million viewers, this year’s award show outperformed efforts made by the ‘Billboard Music Awards’, ‘The Golden Globe Awards’ and the USA‘s ‘World Cup 2014‘ game against Portugal.
Soaring to the top of Sunday night’s Cable ratings, the award show’s parent website ‘BET.com’ also enjoyed substantial gains on the night, with its website enjoying a 49% increase in traffic while its official ‘Facebook’ page enjoying the benefit of 50.5 million impressions!

The live telecast of “BET Awards” 14 was a worldwide trending topic on Twitter, trending in the United States for the entirety of the show. The high energy show generated the highest tweets per unique author of any special since October 2012 (Nielsen; News/Live).* The BET Awards pre-show red carpet telecast garnered 508,000 tweets. Tweet volume surpassed all other red carpets shows year to date combined, including the GRAMMY Awards and the Academy Awards.
