When the movie’s release was confirmed, fans of the original series had been led to believe its producers were to launch a reworked version of it.
However, in an interview with ‘IGN.com’, its executive-producer Roberto Orci has revealed that though this isn’t necessarily the case, its supporters could expect some of its strongest characters to be written into the new script.
On using the series to guide the movie’s direction he shared:
They (Saban) have 600 pages of research that they have on their stuff. We read through the synopsis of everything they did and we’re taking into account quite a bit of the canon in a real way. It’s got great continuity within the world. Haim Saban cares very much about that, this is something he created.
Then, when asked if he had considered calling on its better known acts to join the project, he revealed the following.
Of course! That’s something we want to rely on the Saban group to tell us. They have a lot of internal knowledge of their franchise and we’re just learning now. We’ve only seen it as fans, but they know know it inside and out.
His info-spilling then prompted actor Jason David Frank (who portrays the character Tommy Oliver) to reveal that he hoped to score a role in the release as a Ranger, 21 years after he signed on to star in the ‘Mighty Morphin‘ series.
