Funnyman Steve Harvey wasn’t exactly smiling after his epic blunder on this Sunday night’s showing saw him announce the wrong winner of the coveted ‘Miss Universe’ crown.
Since then, the comedian/actor/talk show host has been fielding racially charged attacks on social media and endless ridicule courtesy of memes and Vine videos.
Undeterred, it looks like Harvey will have the last laugh as reports indicate viewers will be seeing his name as host once again next year:
The three-hour Fox telecast averaged 6.2 million viewers and a 1.7 rating among adults 18-49, though that was before Steve Harvey’s gaffe set the Internet on fire. Last year’s Miss Universe pageant had the fortunate distinction of airing in late January, without any NFL competition. It averaged 7.7 million viewers and a 2.0 rating in the key demo.
Despite the slip, FOX execs are expecting a boost in next year’s showing as they’ve tapped the comic-turned-talk show host to don emcee honors for the ceremony.
