After doing her part to support the latest edition of ‘Star Wars’ Lupita Nyong’O leads the cast of ‘Queen of Katwe.’
The story tells the real tale of a Ugandan chess prodigy Phiona Mutesi and will make its way to theatres on September 23rd with help of Disney and ESPN Films.
Watch its trailer below…
$15 million was spent to bring director Mira Nair‘s vision to life and was used to secure the critically acclaimed David Oyelowo as well as Madina Nalwanga who bagged its leading role.
Lupita said of Uganda:
There is an ease in the Ugandan demeanor that is very welcoming. I love the melody of the accent, the food, the music and the people’s inherent style. There was a familiarity with my home country being right next door but also complete surprise in what was so different.
There is a resilience of spirit in Uganda. The slum of Katwe is a very difficult place to live, but you see these people living there with dignity. To go there and to have that environment to work from really did give life and meaning to our work. It was research, obstacle and inspiration.
This looks cute. Almost seems like an Africanized version of Akeelah and the Bee lol, it should be an interesting watch!
I had to find the song in the trailer. Leona Lewis ‘thick skin.’ I like it. What ever happened to her…?
More movies like this we need. Not that slavery repetitive bullcrap that is being produced every year.
Lupita is in serious need of roles. She had such momentum two years ago with the oscar but it has not translated in roles.
That’s because she said she thinks every role is important, she doesn’t need to be in a movie with 10 other famous actors to make it important. As long as it’s a significant story she’s involved. Which I agree with 100% why sell your soul for a dollar some people take their craft serious. Real actors don’t need justify their craft by landing a lead role, even though that’s what white Hollywood would love to have us believe.
But it is how the industry works. If after two years she has barely got any role, she will struggle in no time. Be sure of that. Music industry is like that too really.
Cool
