John Legend is readying the release of a new TV based on the horrific tale of the Black Wall Street.
Good news below…
His ‘Get Lifted’ company is gearing up to unlock the second season of the hit show ‘Underground’ and are now developing a new series that will also air on WGN America.
In it, Legend and co-producer Tika Sumpter will tell the historical tale of one of the wealthiest African-American communities in the United States.
Set in the 1910s and based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the story will follow the lives of several affluent businessmen who sought to free themselves from the legislative and financial chains built to oppress their communities post-slavery.
‘Lifted’s Mike Jackson shared:
We’re so excited to continue to grow our relationship with WGN America. Our experience working with them on Underground has been fantastic.Additionally we’re looking forward to working with our friend Tika Sumpter to help tell this incredible story that many people know nothing about.
Why the story is horrific?
The community, and those in it, were burned by racists seeking to dismantle their power.
The show will premiere in 2018.

Underground’ depicts a raw and revolutionary chapter in the American story. We wanted an artist who could help us find the light through the darkness, and John Legend was a perfect fit. We are beyond excited to be working with John, Mike and Ty at Get Lifted. They stand without peer at the intersection of music and television — we couldn’t think of better producing partners.
