The First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama has been targeted by hackers this week.
Details on the incident and the White House’s response below…
A scanned copy of Mrs. Obama‘s passport surfaced online hours ago following a dangerous cyber breach which also unearthed emails sent to and from her employees at the White House.
How they were accessed?
The Gmail account of a White House travel coordinator, purportedly hacked by tech-savvy criminals who may have known that their account may have been easier to infiltrate because they were not a full-time member of staff.
Once stolen, the information was placed on DC Leaks, the website which is also home to the damning emails recently ripped from Colin Powell‘s possession.
Secret Service communications director Cathy Milhoan shared:
The Secret Service is concerned any time unauthorized information that might pertain to one of the individuals we protect, or our operations, is allegedly disclosed.
White House spokesman Josh Earnest revealed that officials planned to investigate the matter, but explained:
At this point I cannot announce any sort of conclusion that’s been reached about the individual or individuals that may have been responsible for the cyber breach that resulted in this information being leaked.
