While his stint at television may be suffering, Hollywood funnyman Kevin Hart‘s cinematic career still gives him much to smile about.
Indeed, after scoring three of the year’s biggest hits with ‘Central Intelligence,’ ‘Secret Life of Pets,’ and ‘Ride Along 2,’ Hart is set to ride right into history books with his latest venture – standup comedy flick ‘What Now.’
That’s right, the Tim Story-directed picture, filmed in August 2015 in front of 53,000 people at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field, opened in theaters over the weekend to the handsome sum of…
$12 Million
The follow-up to 2013’s ‘Let Me Explain,’ ‘What’ – which also features appearances by Academy Award winner Halle Berry and Don Cheadle – may have fallen short of its original $13-$15 million projected opening, but its impressive figure still granted it the #2 slot this past weekend behind the Ben Affleck-led ‘The Accountant.’
‘What Now’ is now sitting in history books with the highest opening weekend for any stand-up comedy film ever. Look below to see who he beat out to nab the honor:

…Ticket prices are higher now, So next…
I don’t like him…
Why is inflation always the go to reason for hatred to discredit success?!
Like be for real…ticket sales were also higher in 1980 than they were in 1975…that shouldn’t discredit anyone from that time periods success
Have several seats. It’s not “Inflation” it’s an “Opinion” do your research. FOH! ?
Did this person just literally say that inflation was the reason they didn’t like him then turned right around and said it isn’t inflation? TGJ brings out the idiots left and right.
That top ten is FULL of black men! So great to see.
Exactly. That’d the first thing I noticed! Awesome stuff
This goes to show you that there’s just something about black people that causes us to dominate whatever we choose to do. Bey and rih etc got music. Jay and ye and nicki etc got rap. Halle and denzel and viola amongst others have acting. Barack is the president. We are kicking ass!
Guess I’ll be the one to point out that he was in some cases shown in more than double the number of theatres (or at least a significant higher number of theatres) and barely topped himself in 2013, Kings of Comedy, or Raw. Still good though.
History? … Seriously these guys praise some of the most irrelevant things sometimes.
Oh and about inflation: yes it is very important. Delusional and slow people probably think Avengers, Force Awakens and Frozen are the biggest hits at the worldwide box office ever or something LOL When the truth is, adjusting by inflation, there hasn´t been a single film to top Titanic still (since 1997 that is). Not even Avatar. So yes I definitely have inflation very present when I see box office numbers.
Ok but if people are seeing movies despite inflation along with the titanic being one of those inflated movies as well then what is your point honestly? Success is success.
You don´t get it, do you?
Happy for him as comedians really have to ride the wave once those doors open.
Kevin may be short in stature but TALL in success.
Good on him.
BLACK EXCELLENCE ??
Kevin is really not that funny, but good for him.
Good for him
