With a story as prolific as Tupac‘s, a big screen blockbuster is a necessity.
And that’s exactly what those involved in much-talked about biopic ‘All Eyez On Me’ have been angling for since news of the film’s existence hit headlines.
Now, it appears said goal has been achieved. Because not only is the flick officially set for a Summer release, it’s also been picked up by a huge movie studio.
Details below…
‘All Eyez On Me’ has a confirmed US theater date of June 16th 2017 – a day notable because it would have been the iconic rap star’s 46th birthday.
In development for several years under Morgan Creek Entertainment, the film’s cinema release is facilitated by a lucrative global deal with Lionsgate. The latter will roll-out the title under their Summit Entertainment imprint.
Interestingly, the film – which chronicles the MC’s meteoric rise on Death Row records as well as the fatal shooting which ended his life – has been just as dramatic behind the scenes.
The project initially set sail in 2011 with Antoine Fuqua tapped as director. He would eventually depart due to creative differences. His successor John Singleton also left the production for similar reasons. Two blows which left its release in doubt.
Yet, the film picked up steam again after the worldwide success of N.W.A‘s 2015 biopic ‘Straight Outta Compton’ – which featured a brief cameo by Tupac (played by Demetrius Shipp Jr).
That gig landed Shipp the lead role of ‘Pac in ‘All Eyez.’
Confirmation of the movie’s theatrical release comes on the heels of last month’s announcement that the late MC will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.
