It’s handled!
‘Scandal’ and ‘How To Get Away With Murder’ will officially return for the 2017-2018 TV season, it has been announced.
Full story below…
Alongside fellow Shonda Rhimes show ‘Greys Anatomy,’ the hit dramas will form part of the next TGIT (Thank God It’s Thursday) block of programming for ABC.
The early renewals (which are typically reserved for the most important shows on a network) means the Kerry Washington led ‘Scandal’ will officially proceed with a 7th season. While Viola Davis’ ‘Murder’ will be back for a 4th run.
Both have performed strongly in their current cycles, with optimum performance occurring when ‘Scandal’ returned to the TGIT fold (and as a lead-in for ‘Murder’) after a longer than usual hiatus to accommodate Washington’s pregnancy.
As for the long-term future of ‘Scandal’ specifically, ABC Entertainment’s Channing Dungey (the division’s first Afro-American president) says there has been talk of an “end game.”
Echoing publisized word from creator Shonda Rhimes, who has been vocal about knowing when the show will bow out, Dungey said last month:
“It’s really going to be up to Shonda because she’s the person who really knows where she wants the story to go and where it will play out. I have always said that I will take as much ‘Scandal’ as she will give me. We are in a universe where she’s comfortable with slightly shorter seasons but my plan is Scandal is back next year and after that, it’ll be a conversation that we’ll have to have.” [Source]
We’re just glad there’ll be more!
Congrats to all.
