It reinforces the channel’s commitment to the series, which has continued to perform strongly in its new Sunday night/10pm time slot. [It originally aired on Thursdays during its freshman run].
Thus far, the show is averaging 5 million viewers – a sizeable figure for its broadcast time. It also is a potent performer on-demand and on-delay (+1, etc).
Speaking on the pick-up, NBC’s President of Entertainment Jennifer Salke said in a statement:
“We’re so hugely appreciative of everything Jennifer [Lopez] and Ray do, and know it is due to their dedication, as well as the hard work of our incredible cast and producers, that ‘Shades of Blue’ has so clearly and compellingly earned a third-season renewal. This show continues to mine powerful stories that always leave us hungry for more.”
Lopez stars opposite Ray Liotta as detective Harlee Santos. Their often conflicting approach to their job forms the focus of the show.
