Welcome to another edition of Retro Rewind, the TGJ original feature launched to take you on a journey into television and film’s brilliant past.

After revisiting the 90s thriller ‘The Hand that Rocks the Cradle’ last week today sees us return to the year 1992 to celebrate the classic that is ‘Single White Female.’

Based on the book ‘SFW Seeks Same’ by John Lutz, ‘Female’ tells the intriguing tale of an ambitious but broken young woman who finds a friend and roommate is a seemingly sane lady named Hedra.

What happens next makes ‘White’ one of the most thrilling pictures in film history.

    ‘…in film history’ That’s a reach! SWF had it’s moment in the sun but it hasn’t aged well and tbh, if a movie with a title like that came out today it would be roasted all across twitter lol. On second thought however, it would raise much needed commentary on the supposed ‘inherent innocence’ of white women and what happens when one places that belief much higher up on the list of criteria than say, employment references and security checks.
