Published: Wednesday 6th Dec 2017 by David

TIME‘s Person of the Year has been revealed.

Who it is?

The brave women at the forefront of the #MeToo movement.

Brilliant news below…

The movement was founded by Tarana Burke to encourage victims of sexual abuse to step forward with their stories.

This year, the exposure of Harvey Weinstein‘s alleged abuse of several women in Hollywood saw it rise to prominence and see a number of influential ladies reveal that they too had faced abuse.

The galvanizing actions of the women on our cover…along with those of hundreds of others, and of many men as well, have unleashed one of the highest-velocity shifts in our culture since the 1960s. The idea that influential, inspirational individuals shape the world could not be more apt this year. For giving voice to open secrets, for moving whisper networks onto social networks, for pushing us all to stop accepting the unacceptable, The Silence Breakers are the 2017 Person of the Year.

Quite interestingly, Donald Trump– who has been accused of assaulting several women- was the runner-up.

Taylor Swift features on the cover because this year saw her stand up to the man who allegedly groped her in this picture.

She had this to say after winning the case that followed the alleged assault…

I acknowledge the privilege that I benefit from in life, in society and in my ability to shoulder the enormous cost of defending myself in a trial like this. My hope is to help those whose voices should also be heard. Therefore, I will be making donations in the near future to multiple organizations that help sexual assault victims defend themselves.
