Season 5 of ‘Married To Medicine’ has made for gripping viewing. And not only because of the drama between the ladies, but also the chaos in their marital lives.
For one couple though, the pressure proved too much. They are splitting and the paperwork has been filed.
Find out who below…
According to PEOPLE, Dr. Simone Whitmore and her husband Cecil Whitmore are divorcing.
The OBGYN, 50, and I.T expert hubby, 51, are calling time on their 21-year marriage — and the news was revealed to cast-mates during the reunion taping in New York today.
Before filming of the special (which will air in March), Dr. Simone revealed that it was she who opted to end the relationship and filed for divorce in October last year. She added that she intends to have all the dissolving of the union finalized upon her return to Atlanta.
Speaking on the matter, she said:
“There is no if here, there are no games. I am not pretending. I am done. I have reached a place where I am in a marriage where I do not feel loved and no sacrifices are being made for me to make me feel loved. I must move on.”
The couple — who have two sons Miles, 19 and Michael, 15 — first met while students in Spelman College and renewed their vows on last season’s couple trip.
However, the current cycle of the hit Bravo show has shown their fractured relationship reach breaking point. And sadly, it snapped.
Though resolute about her decision, she doesn’t regret sharing their highs and lows on ‘Married To Medicine.’ She added:
“I know Cecil and I look like a fun couple to everyone on the outside, but it takes more to make a marriage work. One of the things I was most proud about on our show was the realistic portrayal of black love, with all of the married couples showing America the real ups and downs of raising families. And sadly … divorce is 50 percent in this country.”
As for what’s next, she says she seems optimistic and wants viewers to feel empowered by the move:
“As a successful woman who truly loves herself, I will continue to make sure that I am empowering myself. Divorce is nothing that anyone should be feeling sorry for me, because I am looking forward to a new chapter, a new life, a new beginning. Life has so much to offer me. I have always been a go-getter and I am going to continue to be a go-getter and to strive for the very best that life has to offer.”
We wish Simone and Cecil the best.
