Top-billed is Jordan Fisher, who plays the central character of Mark Cohen, while Tinashe has snagged female lead; she’ll tackle the role of Mimi Marquez, the dancer who struggles with addiction.
Elsewhere, Mario supports as Benjamin “Benny” Coffin III and Vanessa Hudgens will play Maureen Johnson, an outgoing performance artist who’s not afraid to speak her mind.
‘Rent’ is Tony-Award winning HIV/AIDS-themed musical. It’s loosely based on ‘La Boheme’ and tells the story of a group of impoverished young artists struggling to survive and create a life in New York’s East Village in the days of the Bohemian Alphabet City and under the cloud of the HIV/AIDS crisis.
Speaking on his new appointment, Mario – who recently joined ‘Empire’ – said:
“Given the times we are in, a play like RENT is important to Shed light on many subjects STILL plaguing our society and the importance of unity awareness. Happy to be apart of this amazing cast!”
‘Rent’ premieres January 27th 2019 on Fox.
Longevity in showbiz is all about diversification, as such it’s great to see both Tinashe and Mario making super smart moves like this.
