Taraji P. Henson Clarifies Controversial R. Kelly Stance After Backlash

Published: Wednesday 23rd Jan 2019 by Rashad

Taraji P. Henson added her name to a growing list of celebrities who have been harshly criticized for offering a controversial stance on R. Kelly since the premiere of Lifetime’s damning documentary, ‘Surviving R. Kelly’ (which features testimonies from victims who allege sexual and emotional abuse at the R&B singer’s hands).

When the ‘Empire’ actress took to social media (in a now deleted post) to compare the high number of hashtags containing #MuteRKelly versus the “seemingly low” number of posts containing #MuteWeinstein or #MuteHarveyWeinstein, it was believed she was implying the disparity was due to Kelly receiving unfair treatment.

The result?  A backlash ensued that prompted her to follow-up with a clarification of sorts.  See what we mean:

After Henson caught wind tweets like those the below (including words from ‘Surviving R. Kelly’s producer, Dream Hampton):

She took to Twitter to say:

Taraji is 1000 percent correct. This is a BIASED TARGETED attack on R. Kelly only so that the media can go silent on Weinstein, Spacey, Trump, Travolta, Phillippe, etc.

I actually agree with you on this one lol. All I see is a bunch of tweets from a bunch of brainwashed colored folk making excuses for why the white predators are never exposed or brought to justice. Throw this whole generation away.

The number of allegations against R. Kelly stand massively higher than those against everyone else. Naturally, it’s going to bring more attention. You also see more effort to bring R. Kelly to justice because he was still standing and still working one story after another, one settlement after another. It’s either his victims aren’t being heard or that everyone is spreading lies about Kelly.

LIES. R. Kelly has ZERO criminal allegations in 20 years. R. Kelly has ZERO allegations from underrage girls in 20 years. The others have REAL CRIMINAL ALLEGATIONS against them! Thus, their count is higher. Nobody really cares what adult freak hos say against him because whatever transpired was LEGAL. You are the same as those idiot black muteKelly people. You are running off of NO PROOF with an unintelligent agenda to destroy a black male legend who has not done anything illegal in 20 years.

She made a good point and glad she let those people know that she didn’t mean that it was meant to defend R. Kelly. Social Media finna destroy society with the way people are quick to “the hill you choose to die on”. I think it is great to scrutinize when necessary, but to say they are “cancelled” in some scenarios is quite a bit much.
