Will Smith & Queen Latifah Ready ‘Romeo & Juliet’ Remake

Published: Saturday 18th May 2019 by David

Queen Latifah and Will Smith are joining forces for a romantic cause!

Find out how and why below…

The powerful friends, who enjoyed major notoriety as peace-loving rappers in the 80s before becoming movie stars, have linked arms to build a remake of the ‘Romeo & Juliet’ story in partnership with Netflix.

Its USP? It is to be a Hip-Hop musical.

Its theme?

…about a young waitress from Brooklyn and an aspiring musician from a wealthy family, whose unconventional romance forces them to confront their life choices

Its script is to be penned by Solvan Naim (‘The Get Down’) and delivered to Netflix to support its bid to ward off competition from its up and coming rival Apple TV and its long-running foe Hulu.

Lord have mercy. I am over it.

I could understand this from Michael B Jordan and Lupita N’yongo. Some success, but enough to be able to take a huge risk.

WILL SMITH AND DANA OWENS ARE CEMENTED IN HOLLYWOOD!

I was so disappointed with Queen Latfiah’s last film. A typical “hood story”. Will Smith and she could come up with something original.

Why do we have to “have a Black version”?

There are so many beautiful stories from ACTUAL Black life, that deserve a movie.

Why do we keep acting like White people are the standard?

And quite frankly, Romeo and Juliet’s ending is so White. Black people run from the monster. We don’t go exploring “sounds”. And we would call 911 and check for a pulse even if we thought they were dead. Or…not touch the body and run because we’ll be blamed and have watched enough Law & Order: SVU. Especially if it’s a modern take.
