We are not ready or worthy for the assembly of Black female Hollywood royalty that lines the first season of HBO’s forthcoming comedy, ‘A Black Lady Sketch Show.’
Executive produced by Robin Thede and Issa Rae, the show – which stars Thede, Ashley Nicole Black, Gabrielle Dennis and Quinta Brunson as series regulars – calls on a jaw-dropping list of guest stars to help bring the funny including Angela Bassett, Tia Mowry, Lena Waithe, Patti LaBelle, Amber Riley, Loretta Divine, Marsai Martin, Khandi Alexander, Kelly Rowland, and, of course, Rae (among many others).
Blasting onto screens August 2nd, get your first taste of what these ladies have to offer inside:
The show will undoubtedly tide over fans of the network’s ‘Insecure’ who were bummed at the announcement the series wouldn’t be returning to screens until 2020 (click here to read more).

All this black excellence!! Im here for it!!
So happy for Quinta I’ve been following her on Facebook for years… this looks funny… I’ve just wished they wouldn’t have named it that…we don’t have to let the world know it’s a black sketch show…you kinda exclude viewers from other races and makes the show lose credibility.. just my opinion…
I hate the name as well, you can kind of tell by how every person you see is black that’s it’s a black sketch show. It’s almost like they aren’t creative enough to come up with a better title. It looks good nonetheless, I’m so pressed for Quinta B, I used to stalk her Instagram to get my laugh for the day lol
True, not crazy about the name
This looks so damn good!
I’ve been waiting for an all black sketch comedy show to get a chance!
As for those commenters taking issue with the title:
It’s a sketch show specifically showcasing/highlighting Black Women Comedians…which is something that I don’t believe has ever been done (comedy tours and specials yes, but not an actual series that brings a large number of hilarious black women together for weekly sketches)
i think the title is a great choice because it (like the show itself) is making a statement…
They’re serving up something that isn’t out there while taking pride in who they are.
y’all sound like some self hating folks taking issue with their choice of title.
It’s like crying “but what about the white people’s feelings” when it’s not being made by or specifically for them.
It’s not being anti-inclusive when marginalized groups take pride in our identities that have historically and still to this day get us discriminated against nor when we carve out spaces for ourselves..and doing such won’t ruin our credibility with anyone who’s opinion actually matters.
And in regards to your concerns about limiting viewership…Being named BET sure as h*ll doesn’t stop people of all races from tuning into that network. Besides, if someone isn’t going to watch this show because of its title they likely won’t enjoy the show anyhow.
I doubt Issa Rae is stressing “credibility” in the eyes of folks who’re turned off by the title so I’d recommend you not stressing either LoL
Trust me.. I’m as pro black as it gets. I’m not self hating. You don’t see other races looking for validation. It makes black people seem like we need validation by putting black in front of everything. We don’t need to do that. I get sick of black people talking about self hate when you dont want to where signs saying “HEY IM BLACK”. Many people from other races will feel like it’s not for them or they can’t connect to it. No viewers, no show, just saying. Most of my black friends don’t even have HBO. So ??♂️…Insecure is a black show but has a large white following.
