As the world continues to reel from the death of celebrated actor and activist Chadwick Boseman, many of his fans and admirers – celebrities included (as we reported here) – have taken to social media to offer their condolences and share their fondest memories with the ‘Black Panther’ star.
While most of the posts range from heartwarming to heart-tugging, one lifted by ‘Power’ actor Omari Hardwick has been getting a hearty thumbs down from fans of Boseman for its ‘narcissistic’ content.
Taking to Instagram over the weekend, Hardwick posted a eulogy that featured a bit more self-praise than reverence for for the fallen star. When called out on it by a follower, Omari’s response landed him in even more hot water.
See what we mean inside:
First, O took to Instagram and posted this:
When fans criticized the 46-year-old for his post which featured language some found insensitive (not to mention the picture of himself accepting an award), his response garnered even more side-eyes.
When another commenter weighed in, Hardwick hit back.

Ouch! Needless to say, Twitter erupted as the story gained traction.
This is why I love black ppl. We support each other but trust and believe we also call out each other when needed. The nerve of Omari.
I guess…🙄 Putting a picture up of himself was strange, but I don’t think he meant any harm. No to mention he personally knew Chadwick where most of these fans didn’t. People really need to STFU sometimes because they don’t know what there relationship was like. Why try to make Omari feel like less than, and trash his career. How is trashing another black man honoring Chadwick?
He is thirsty, no one is checking for him and microwaves popcorn shows.
I don’t see the problem. He’s speaking about a friendship that was bigger than the competitive nature he shared with Chad, and how his intention is to carry forward and uphold Chad’s memory by continuing to be competitive in the acting industry. And just because the only role you paid attention to was a drug dealer does not mean Omari hasn’t played other parts. You all got the impression that he considers himself a replacement for Chadwick, but that’s not at all what he was saying.
People just always angry and wanting to blame it on something smh
Ignorant! Smdh! He definitely made it about him! First he slobbers all over Beyonce on national t.v in front of her husband and now he’s making the passing of an AMAZING man, about HIM. Crazy part is that information wasn’t known or needed.
