A double dose of Tyler Perry was just what BET ordered to win the TV ratings war Tuesday night (February 16).
As we reported here, comedians Kenan Thompson and wrestler-turned-actor Dwayne Johnson were the ratings champs on the broadcast front. Among cable networks, however, Perry was the clear victor.
With the television debut of his acclaimed stage play, ‘Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Farewell Play,’ already met with high anticipation for its February 16 airing, that excitement was sent into overdrive after the announcement it would be preceded by the season 2 premiere of his original scripted series, ‘The Oval.’
Rated the #1 new series for African Americans P2+ on cable in 2020, the show’s second swing at bat indicated it shows no sign of loosening grip on the title any time soon.

Viewership = 1 million
If viewership figures are anything to judge by, fans of ‘The Oval’ couldn’t wait to circle around the television to find out the latest happenings of President Hunter Franklin, First Lady Victoria, Gayle, Jason, Richard, Nancy, and the gang.
Raking in a little over 1 million viewers Tuesday night, the show’s season return reaffirmed its position as a consistent ratings draw as those figures are in line with the sum who tuned in to catch the political drama’s season 1 premiere. What’s more, those numbers were enough to crown ‘The Oval’ Tuesday’s ratings winner among scripted series on cable.
The only other scripted program that drew in more viewers was Perry’s own ‘Madea’ – which was a special airing of his stage play.
