Jennifer Hudson is heading back to the big screen and this time as the legendary Aretha Franklin in the hotly anticipated biopic ‘Respect.’
Handpicked for the role by the Queen of Soul herself, Hudson is already attracting awards buzz for her portrayal of one of the most resonating talents of all time.
Spearheaded by MGM, the Liesl Tommy movie arrives in US theaters on August 11.
When it does, it promises to deliver a raw and unvarnished take on the life of Franklin, who died three years ago.
After the unleashing on an initial look at the film, an extended trailer has been unwrapped and it’s epic.
Watch J.Hud in action alongside co-stars Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, Mary J. Blige, and more below…
Check out new stills from the film:
All I see is Jennifer Hudson. They could’ve at least got her to lip sync to Aretha’s voice because I can’t see Aretha AT ALL.
This doesn’t look good. The Genius series was brilliant. The actors embodied their characters to a tee. God bless the queen but Jennifer wasn’t a good choice.
Genius was a flop next Cynthia was terrible
Yeah I didn’t like the Genius series either and felt the embodiment of Aretha just wasn’t there. I felt like I was watching Gladys Knight being portrayed instead.
Genius wasn’t a flop at all and the entire cast was phenomenal. At least Cynthia studied Arethas mannerisms. She had her shy, short demeanor downpact. Courtney Vance as Rev C.L. Franklin, remarkable! The young man who played James Cleveland, it was almost creepy how he looked and sounded just like him! Jennifer Hudson appears to be playing herself.
It started great, and then seeing Mary J. and Marlon made me laugh. I couldn’t take it seriously after that.
Mary j blige is an Oscar nominated actress so take that serious dumb ass
The same Academy that had a 51% drop in viewership this year because most everyone but you sees through the charade?
Regardless of what the Oscars current ratings looks like, that has nothing to do with Mary. She was nominated, not once but TWICE, and that is that.
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Stfu critic Mary j blige was nominated for an Oscar golden globe and sag award all are major awards and if Mary wasn’t a good actress don’t think she would’ve got nominated for acting so keep hating at the end of day she don’t have nothing to prove to your hatin ass probably a failed actor that never made it
It’s giving Effie White 2021
It feels like this movie has taken 10 years to make. Love Jud so hope this is good.
Typical by the books biopic. Nothing fresh or innovative.
Jennifer will probably be nominated for awards because she is black and awards needs diversity.
Lmaooooo
You sound like a person who makes excuses for others success
Miserable
Why won’t Camicky get any acting nominations ? Oops. It’s going straight to DVD
And straight into the archives 😂😂😂
Normani stan= ur opinion doesn’t matter
😂
When ur girl releases an album then u can speak to me, but until then everything u say is viod. 😌💅
U literally stan a girl with 1 solo song that tanked after all the hype.
The delusion is strong in u
I could have sworn this movie already came out…anyway I just see Jennifer Hudson playing dress up for karaoke week 🤷 ..I don’t see anything Aretha when I viewed that trailer.
Although good actress..Jennifer Hudson is one of those actors that play as herself in her movies. Not a bad thing, many actors are like this and are notable and successful from it, I’m sure this will still do well.
This looks GOOD, I don’t know WHAT y’all are talking about lol 🤳🏽 Big budget, Jennifer looks focused, Aretha wanted her, the Queen hath spoken, so bye lol 😂 🎥 💯
Is this dream girls part 2 Effies story?
The Genius TV show couldn’t even get the rights to use “Respect” and other big Aretha songs. Aretha would have hated the TV show because SHE didn’t okay it. She handpicked Jennifer Hudson to play her. Could you imagine if acting hack Beyonce had gotten this role?
I love the picture Aretha (Respect). It was very enjoyable. I even seen it on my Belt on my T V. It made me cry threw the picture. Jennier Hudson played Aretha very well. I enjoyed the picture very well. Thank you
