In news sure to send 80’s and 90’s babies into a frenzy, Disney has announced a reboot of the classic ‘X-Men’ animated series!
More inside:
The beloved group of Marvel mutants will be charging back to screens via a Disney+ revamp set to premiere in 2023. Picking up where the show’s original run from 1992-1997 left off, the new series will be called ‘X-Men 97.’
As if that’s not enough, original voice actors George Buza, Alison Sealy-Smith, Chris Potter, Catherine Disher, Adrian Hough,Cal Dodd, Lenore Zann, and Christopher Britton have signed on to reprise their original roles and voice new characters.
Brad Winderbaum – Disney’s head of streaming television – officially broke the news Friday (November 12).
“This is the first X-Men title produced by Marvel Studios,” Winderbaum, said in a statement. “What an amazing first step to reintroduce audiences to the X-Men with a look at one of the most pinnacle eras of the X-Men comics, which was the ’90s.”
Later in the statement, he said:
“That iconic style that has its roots in Chris Claremont, and is celebrated in Jim Lee, and then again in The Animated Series. Over the years, as we’ve met with so many filmmakers who have come in to pitch on various projects, the touchstone that we hear over and over again is X-Men: The Animated Series.”
