Despite rising concerns over the omicron variant of COVID-19, the film earns the honor of both bulldozing the pandemic-era box office records and becoming the third biggest opening of all time. It’s only bested by ‘Avengers: Endgame’ and ‘Avengers: Infinity War.’
So how do the numbers stack up?
The Sony Pictures / Marvel production grossed a gargantuan $253 million at the US box office in its opening week. Its domestic and worldwide wins bring its combined gross to over $588 million.
It’s of note that the film (the third with Holland as the masked web-slinger), was made on a $200 million budget and has yet to open in certain major markets such as Japan and China.
