Nichelle Nichols, Pioneering ‘Star Trek’ Actress, Dead at 89

Nichelle Nichols, famed for her role as Lt. Nyota Uhura in the original ‘Star Trek’ series, has sadly died.

The star made history as one of the first Black actresses to play a major role in a television series. A trailblazer and a force, she broke race barriers in the 1960s by joining the long-running series.

Nichols’ death was confirmed by Gilbert Bell, her talent manager and business partner of 15 years.

She was 89.

It was revealed that she passed away in New Mexico.
