Just weeks after clapping back at the haters (*ahem* Aries Spears) while collecting her first MTV VMA at the 2022 ceremony (as we reported here), Lizzo took to the stage of the 74th annual EMMY Awards Monday night (September 12) to accept yet another major industry trophy.
Details inside:
Lizzo’s Amazon Prime dance competition series, ‘Watch Out for the Big Grrrls,’ won the EMMY for best competition program Monday, beating out the likes of The Amazing Race (CBS), Nailed It! (Netflix), RuPaul’s Drag Race (VH1), Top Chef (Bravo), and The Voice (NBC) to secure the honor.
Her first EMMY nomination and win, the triumph gets her one step closer to EGOT status as she’s already nabbed multiple GRAMMYs for work found aboard her 2019 major label debut album ‘Cuz I Love You.’
“I’m very emotional. The trophy is nice but my emotion is for these people who are on the stage with me. The stories that they shared, they’re not that unique. They just don’t get the platform. Telling stories, let’s just tell more stories,” she said during her touching acceptance speech.
Lizzo also serves as the show’s creator and executive producer. Click here to see the full list of 2022 winners.
