Terrence Howard Stuns With Retirement Announcement: “This is the End for Me”

Over the last 30 years Terrence Howard has been a Black Hollywood staple.

Bringing unforgettable characters like Quentin Spivey (‘The Best Man‘), Cameron Thayer (‘Crash‘), Djay (‘Hustle & Flow‘), James Rhodes (‘Iron Man‘), Lucious Lyon (‘Empire‘), and many others to life over his three-decade tenure, the veteran actor has not only collected top industry honors for his work but has even garnered Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations along the way.

That impressive, yet lengthy resume was the reason Howard announced his retirement in 2019 during the last season of ‘Empire.’

And though he didn’t keep his word at that time, three years later he’s revisited the statement and assured longtime fans he’s for real this time.

Hot on the promo trail for the December 22 premiere of ‘Best Man: The Final Chapters,’ Howard shared the stunning retirement announcement with ‘ET’ on the red carpet of the Peacock show’s premiere event.

“This is the end for me. This is the end for me,” the 53-year-old said before later adding, “I retired two years ago, for the most part. I was done.”

Though he’s acted in roles since the initial retirement announcement years ago, he’s committed to making ‘Final Chapters’ his final showing.

“I’ve gotten to the point where now I’ve given the very best that I have as an actor. Now I’m enjoying watching other new talent come around, and I don’t want to do an impersonation of myself,” he relayed.

His hope now is to hand the reins over to the next generation of actors.

“Yes, there’s some better actors out there that can do things that I was never able to do,” he said. “So, I want to applaud them, I want to be excited about what they do.”
