Report: ‘Little Mermaid’ Animated Series with Black Ariel Greenlit at Disney After Success of Halle Bailey-Led Film

Published: Wednesday 14th Jun 2023 by Rashad

In news certain to piss off the racist detractors, Disney’s 2023 live-action remake of the 1989 animated classic The Little Mermaid has not only doubled the original’s box office receipts but has sailed into the top 5 ranking of “most successful films of the year” to date.

And despite the unfavorable reception in Asian markets, the execs at Disney are so pleased with the performance of the Halle Bailey-led flick that they’re giving it an animated spinoff for TV.

Details inside.

At the time of this report, Disney’s live-action ‘Mermaid’ – which also stars Daveed Diggs, Awkwafina, Melissa McCarthy, Jonah Hauer-King, and more – has raked in over $415 million worldwide since its release on May 24.

Those figures were just the inspiration needed to capitalize on the movie’s ongoing buzz by greenlighting an animated prequel for the Disney television subsidiary Disney Jr.

Reportedly titled ‘Ariel,’ the cartoon series will be targeted to preschool-aged children and will most notably feature a younger, Black representation of its leading mermaid.  King Triton, Ursula, Sebastian, Flounder, and a slew of new additions are said to be joining the singing redhead on the new and exciting underwater adventures.

At writing, Disney has not confirmed who will voice the beloved characters or when it will sail to screens.

Can we get a black prince too, or will we have to have a little white boy for her to fall for? I’m tired of all this swirl, chile. Our kids need to see black love.

Ling Ling, girl, you a bish, but you a funny bish. Lol.

Black love is a made-up fairytale like the Little Mermaid story is, there is no such thing as black love. Blacks have babies out of wedlock and are fatherless without love. FACTS!

      • Yep June 15, 2023

Who caused the current situation? It was an experiment to destroy black families and prevent their emancipation.

It is funny though. The people who were mandated by the American government to proceed warned against such an outcome. African Americans fared as good they could in those specific circumstances.

Whites would try to take guns against a government who tried to destroy their families, right? Blacks didn’t do that.

Go read a book or two. You are as uneducated on the subject as you seem clueless in real life.

2023’s The Little Mermaid remake was supposed to be one of the biggest Disney movies of the year, with the film getting an immense amount of marketing and hype. However, the film has seemingly fallen flat, with The Little Mermaid not living up to many of Disney’s other live-action remakes.

    • Xtina4life June 14, 2023

that if the film’s box office is around $400 million (which it currently is), it can be expected to lose around $20 million. This would mark The Little Mermaid as the first live-action remake to fail outside of the C******* pandemic, with it possibly shaking up Disney’s future plans. Because of this, it’s possible that The Little Mermaid could change everything.

      Stfu. 😌

It’s successful despite bigot nobodys racist rants. It continues to rise as you all wish it to fail. When it hits streaming, and does even more- then you will find anything to prove nothing

Whites are scared they will eventually become the minority. #facts

Nice. Can we get a white Tiana now? Thanks.

    • I Said It! June 15, 2023

      I love that idea.

    • Bam June 15, 2023

Sure when we also get black or brown Belle, Aurora, Merida, Elsa, Anna, Rapunzel, and whatever other Disney princesses are currently white. Then you can get white Tiana.

Sorry! Black ppl do NOT have the privilege to steal from YT.

Create ORIGINAL characters because the ppl have spoken.

Hopefully Black ppl remember this the next time “they” wanna take from the culture like “they” been doing since Elvis. ☕️

I think the studios are cowards.
They’d rather use an established licence/characters and play a chess game in the name of diversity.
Instead of investing time, money, effort and find talented people to create NEW heroes that would represent everyone.
I think that would be much more interesting.
All these stupid American wokists are just being fooled and they don’t even realize it.

    • Bam June 15, 2023

I think you’re ignorant. Instead of accepting that the director wanted Halle cause of her talent you still have a need to believe that it was to hit some “diversity” agenda an agenda that in and of itself isnt bad.

      • #TheTruth June 15, 2023

And you can’t read child. Did I say she wasn’t talented ? Fu<k no.
I stand by what I said but apparently you don't understand. This is NOT about Halle. This is about studios politics not creating new characters.

LOL, they didn’t even get a BLACK little girl to voice the character, they chose a biracial girl Mykal-Michelle Harris who is half WHITE.

So many Black girls to choose from and colorist Disney chose a light skinned girl.
