ABC’s ‘The Rookie’ spinoff, ‘The Rookie: Feds,’ won’t be spinning on the network again thanks to a recently announced axing.
Executive produced by and starring EMMY-nominated actress Niecy Nash-Betts, the cop drama broke onto TV screens in September 2022 and told the story of “Simone Clark” – a high school counselor who changed career paths to become the oldest FBI Academy rookie.
Also starring Britt Robertson, Eric Winter, Kevin Zegers, Melissa O’Neil, Jessica Betts, Nathan Fillion, and more, ‘Feds’ uniquely sat on ABC’s roster as the only singular-lead hourlong broadcast series headlined by a Black actor.
According to several outlets including Deadline, the series delivered commendable ratings but the figures weren’t enough to warrant a second season.
The decision on whether the network would renew the freshman drama was delayed for months due to the dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, both of which have concluded.
‘Rookie’ isn’t the only beloved series that’s getting the chop after its rookie season.
According to Alyson Fouse, creator of Bounce TV’s ‘Act Your Age’ (which stars comedy veterans Kym Whitley, Tisha Campbell, and Yvette Nicole Brown), the sitcom has delivered its last laughs.
“I’m sorry to say that my show ‘Act Your Age’ will not be returning to @bounce for a second season. The first season will, however, be available on @netflix early next year. Thank you to everyone who watched and supported. It meant the world to us,” she told her 3,000 followers on Twitter.
The ‘Act’ cancellation was particularly surprising as the show opened to its network’s highest ratings ever when it debuted in March and was hailed by critics as one of the best new comedies across all of television.
The Rookie Feds was just too corny and unbelievable compared to the OG The Rookie show which is amazing.
