In sad news, it has been announced that actor Louis Gossett Jr. has died.

The star’s nephew confirmed that Gossett passed in Santa Monica on Thursday (March 28).
No cause of death has been shared as of writing.
Boasting a career defined by accolades in earnest, the Emmy winner also made history as the first Black man to win the Best Supporting Actor Oscar. An honor he received for his performance 1982’s ‘An Officer and a Gentleman.’
Other defining roles include 1977’s ‘Roots’ and ‘The Josephine Baker Story’ – the latter of which earned him a Golden Globe Award.
Gossett Jr. most recently starred in 2023’s ‘The Color Purple’ as ‘Ol Mister.
