Media personality and ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race‘ alum Shangela has sashayed her way into another firestorm of controversy courtesy of a new round of sexual assault allegations.
Fans of the award-winning drag diva (real name DJ Pierce) know she was accused of sexual assault, false imprisonment, and sexual harassment (among other charges) in a lawsuit last year by a former assistant on HBO’s EMMY-winning series ‘We’re Here‘ – a slew of allegations she branded as “totally untrue.”
Last week a judge dismissed the suit with prejudice.
Just days later, headlines rang out that Pierce was accused sexually assaulting (or attempting to sexually assault) five people – all of whom claim they were too drunk to consent to the interaction.
According to court docs, the incidents allegedly occurred in different states between 2012 and 2018. All accusers say they drank with the drag performer for an extended period of time before she made moves on them (to varying degrees of success).
Despite acknowledging having met up with four of the accusers, Pierce has maintained innocence.
“[The allegations are] false and unsupported by any evidence or reliable witness testimony,” Shangela relayed through attorney Andrew Brettler before suggesting there were “significant problems” with the accusers’ accounts of nonconsensual sex.
At the time of this report Pierce has not spoken out directly about the reported incidents.
